Hi all at RSVzone.
Its my first time at the site so please go easy on me. I picked up my 1999 rsv mille on sunday from over on the east coast and rode it back to cheshire (almost 200mls). The bike is fantastic except for a couple of things. The clutch is quite heavy to pull in and its near impossible to get the bike into neutral with the engine running, even changing down through the gears require a big stomp on the gear lever. There is a really bad pulse on the front brake lever when the brake is applied, the guy i bought it from said it failed the mot last year on a warped disk and he had put the originals back on and it was ok. He gave me the wave disks he`s took off but i`ve not checked them out yet. Is there any know problems with either the clutch or the front brakes/disks.
Sorry to go on in my first post but i love the bike and just want to get it sorted.
Thanks for any advice
Paul

Hi pstormer and welcome, first the clutch yep i am afraid its a common problem all the rsv's i have ridden, including mine the clutch is stiff and neutral is a real ***** to find,i tend to get it into second and just a gentle tap down it normaly slips in...:devious...have tried bleading it and it was a little better for a short while but soon went stiff, as for yer brakes :dunno:dunno:dunno, hope any of this has helped...:thumbup

Hi there
if you have a look in the How To section theres a whole thread on cheap mod

Weelcome to the madness

Thank for the quick reply
Will try changing the fluid this weekend. Not sure what to do about the disks, its quite scary to ride at slow speeds as it tries to pitch me over the bars when i have to use the front brake.
thanks again

No worries M8 have a look on ebay couple of RSV's being broken on there at mo you might pick up a bargain
Fordy

HI Pstormer, sorry cant offer any help with the clutch as i know feck all about them....but with your brakes,i might be able to offer a little tip i found worked well on mine.sometimes the bobbins (i think thats what they're called) get crap in them, making it feel like you've got warped discs.all i did was remove mine and gave them a good clean up,popped them back on and that sorted that.

or your discs could just be fecked....good luck fella

Hi m8 and welcome :thumbup, check your brake pads .. if they are on the limit replace them and go for the new discs as well , i have an 00 mille and the clutch works smoothly but yes its difficult at times too select neutral :thumbup

Bit weird to have two sets of 'warped' discs...but would suggest as above...check pads & caliper pistons etc for crap/wear, if no change bin the discs...I know they're not cheap but neither is a new helmet or replacement teeth!!! The clutch should be an easy fix...there is also an assortment of aftermarket bits such as enhanced clutch master slave cylinders on e-bay and RSV.Net sells good replacement parts!! All the best

Thanks everyone for all the advice
Its nice to be in a forum were people actually try and help. Dead wright about the helmet and teeth mate but hope it doesn`t come to new disks. The wife thinks i bought a minter, she`ll go on one if i ask father christmas for new disks. Who sells the fleeces as i cant seem to find them on here and they look cool.
