My bike, RSVR 2000 model, has just over 9000 miles on it, fluids were changed 500 miles ago, and the clutch master cylinder fluid is dirty again, clutch was slipping, changed the clutch plates 2 weeks ago everything fine, then the clutch started gripping the other day, adjusted the lever bite point then bled the system, there was air in it, works fine again but the fluid is always dirty??? Is this got something to do with the slave cylinder?? :dunno

Fluid goes dirty quick due to heat I think, this was on a thread the other day and colour is nothing to worry about :devious

Check the resavoir cap make sure it has a good seal, brake fluid is hydroscopic so attracts moisture and other associated crap.

Strange?? I'm gonna bled it again untill the fluid is clean again, reset the lever and see how it goes?????

Don't worry about the colour of the fluid, they all go grey after approx 1 week.

If you're constantly bleeding it, sounds like a seal somewhere. Otherwise, zip tie your lever to your bar overnight, to try and get any trapped air to rise into the reservoir.

The fluid goes black because the seal in the slave cylinder wears at a high rate leaving particles of rubber which stain the fluid. This wear could also be the cause of your air leak. Its an easy job to replcae the seal, and I followed advice from the AF1 forums to smother the inside of the slave and the OD of the seal with Silicone grease, which acts as a lubricant, prolonging the seals life and stopping the fluid from going black. 1000+ miles later and my clutch is working great, and the fluid is as clean as the day it went in :)

The silicone grease can be bought from a swimming pool suppliers or a diving shop, plumbers might even have it. It's used on rubber O-Rings to provides a good seal and keep them supple.

James, thank's a million for that, It alway's go's back to basic's, I couldn't understand why it keep's goin black if it's a sealed unit??? Off to do that now, keep ya posted, if I don't reply today it mean's it's dry in the north o scotland and I'm scratching, or I'm very very drunk!!!!
