Clutch biting point

S

Firstly, a big thanks to the common mod thread about the 40jet-fitted yesterday, and after a minor panic about the oil seapage, seem to be able to fine neutral.....even from 1st(sometimes!),but certainly alot easier. Anyway, also decided to bleed the clutch while I was at it. Bled the nipple on the lever and the lower one. Pulled through a few reservoirs and put everything back together. The biting point now seems to be further from the handlebars though. Not really an issue, but would this be expected? Is there actually a way to adjust this? Cheers all.

Due to it being an hydraulic clutch you cannot adjust the biting point. Pain in the butt as I find it a bit far away from the bars as well. You can adjust the lever span by twiddling the little black button, but with mine on the closest I still don't like it. I went the expensive route and splurged on bling and got a set of ASV levers with huge adjustment range. :inlove Or you could just ride it like it is :)

Just wondered what the reason for the change in biting points was. Seems odd. How are the asv levers? They look nice. Do they still operate with the hydraulic system?

If theres a big difference from before you may still have a bit of air in the system

Sounds like you defo still have air in the circuit, take the slave off and raise and tilt it to get all the air out.

Takes a while longer to do but well worth it.

Ok, ta. thought I d got bleeding sussed after doing my rear brake! Will have another go.

I don't know why bleeding the clutch should move the biting point, it's probably to do with the compressability of air vs. fluid. I have found that I don't notice it over time, but then when I saw Griff he bled it and suddenly the lever is all nice and firm again!

The ASV levers look nice, sort of a matt black finish with a red twiddly adjuster, but the range of adjustment is far greater than the stock ones. Just be careful you don't have them so close that the clutch doesn't disengage properly!

I've bled mine, put in the .40 jet, checked the plates to make sure there are none distorted, checked the dis-engage shaft, changed the oil, tried 15w40 and 15w50, and still cant get nuetral unless the wheel is turning, and then only from 2nd down and only about 30% of the time, so getting a bit fed up with it now, any more ideas ?
