clicky sound?

Noticed tonight on the way home that when setting off I can hear a kind of clicking sound that gets faster as I speed up, dip clutch and it goes away ... doesn't sound like a washing machine full of spanners or anything just a click or clacking sound that gets quicker, not noticable after about 15-20 mph but this could just be the exhaust covering it ... is my clutch on the way out ? :puke
all feels fine when riding and I checked chain tension as it almost sounds like the chain is a bit loose ... obviously can't be as that still goes round when I pull the clutch in :dowhat

almost certainly the clutch basket............mine makes a noise until you pull the clutch lever in then it goes away.

I would have thought that depending on mileage and abuse levels it would be worth checking the clutch/clutch basket as the clutch baskets can wear on these beasties.

its done 27k now ... is a case of possibly replacing the basket? and if so is it easy for a non mechanical minded fool with 2 left hands?

So this clicking is not apparent at idle?

It only clicks when the bike is moving forward and when moving forward if you pull the clutch in it stops clicking?

Yeah?

:lol:lol:lol mine does that :thumbup I just live with it cos I guess Aprilia would want mega bucks to sort it out:biggrin Nice to know what it is for me anyways. whats the problem of leaving this them cos its always done it since I brought the bike

as for the problem in hand, sounds like something to do with the front sprocket area the drive, if you pull in the clutch the bikes not under load and the noise stops and if the sound is getting faster as you get faster.
well thats as far I would suggest, havent a clue from here on in :dunno I would check the drive thingy:biggrin

god im think! :lol no really!

Yep, sounds like its low down and probably on the left hand side ... its annoying every time I pull away :rant

Check you have the right chain and sprockets fitted, I read on another forum that a guy had fitted a 15T 520 front sprocket on his bike as an upgrade, unfortunately his chain was a 525 pitch.

Funnily enough his was clicking.

If the sprockets and chain all match up then I'd be looking for a tight link, hooked sprockets, worn or bent chain.

Make sure your sprockets are tight too, the front sprocket bolt on mine had not been loctited in when I bought it and it didn't feel too tight when I undid it.

Also check and clean/light smear of lube on the cush drive rubbers.

They can give a creaking sound if they break up or get very dry/dirty in their housing. The noise transmits through the drivetrain and can sound like it's from the motor area.

Thats interesting Spoonz

As i noticed a creaking noise when i rotated the rear wheel on the stand last night.

Are they easy to lube

piece of cake chap.

Just remove the rear wheel and seperate the sprocket carrier from the wheel and they will be exposed. They may be tight if dry and dirty.

Rsvr.net got me some for about 85p each so they are very cheap if they look suspect. I had 2 that split, the others just needed a clean up.
