Cleaning rear wheels

I have a Scottoiler fitted on my Mille-R, and she's coming up to her bi-annual spring clean. The rear wheel is caked in oil, so here's my question:
How can I get it looking pristine, using products that cost next to nothing and which would take the very minimum effort and labour?

I know it is a big ask, but if anyone's likely to know, it would be on this forum.

deffo wd-40 and a rag! sometimes i polish them afterwards aswell wich helps stop the crud sticking as much aswell

WD40 is excellent for cleaning crap of wheels etc but once the main crap is off dont stop there!

Clean again to get rid of the oily film thats left otherwise like said above its attracts more dirt.

wd-40 is tops for wheels, spent loads on products like muck off etc and found wd-40 is the cheapest, best, fastest way of cleaning the crap off!

Muc-Off does it for me. WD40 leaves a residue that attracts more crud.

I'm with fastnfat, the WD40 works, but leaves a nasty film behind that all the road dust and dirt sticks to.

I always use muc-off. I liberally spray it on, agitate with a soft brush and then rinse off, brings the bike up like new every time.

I ride all year and use parrafin as its very good and very cheap. Also leaves a very thin film on metal surfaces which makes next clean easier i reckon.

mm im with the others. i discovered this miracle liquid this weekend!!! oz wheels have never looked so blue!

the film is good, leave it there! it may attract more dirt BUT if you leave it there it makes it alot easier to clean next time mate.

so sponge, bucket and soap, rinse with cold water, polish, and WD40 it up! nice soft cloth.

my 2 pence!

:thumbupparasene from b&q garden section 5 litre tub for less than a fiver great for cleaning your chain as well

I used to go with WD40 but now use Gunk de-greaser and a brush - then it doesn't matter if it goes near your brake disc. Hose it off and then wash as normal. Gives a much better finish than WD as there is no residue left behind.
