Cleaning & Looking After Your Leathers?

A

amb67

It's a long time since I looked after a set of leathers, so I set about looking at cleaning and nourishing creams on the net.

Fook me hasn't that business expanded over the last 10 years!!

Well, what I want to know is what you all use on your leathers, mine have engrained ***** in them and I want to revitalise them for summer.

After reading all the crap on the net I reckon that the Renapur kit looks good value for money:

Best way to look after them is to leave them hanging in the wardrobe.....seriously,though Renapur is good..!

I always use mink oil on mine but I can only get it from the states. It keeps 'em soft and tends to make 'em showerproof. Mind you, tricky if (as I did once) you put it on the arse of your leathers. First time I braked I slid up the tank - quite a long way :biggrin

I don't use anything :roll i know i should but i just can't be bothered, maybe a damp cloth if there's too many dead flies :dunno

Yeah, don;t really wash mine either.

Renapur rots the stitching as well, apparently.

'ROT's THE STITCHING' Crikey has anyone else experienced this?

I'm worried now that if I use that my leathers will disintegrate mid ride out. LOL

Seems that I've uncovered that not many people do much with their leathers, perhaps that's the answer?

Do nothing!!

Keep em coming guys, always interested in peoples experiences.

best stuff i bought was an orange balm from the york japanese motorcycle carboot on the 1st weekend of every month.

fantastic stuff - keeps leather water repellent - moisturised - ill let you know exactly what it is next time i go.

It's the same stuff that's in Dubbin, is it the Beeswax? Don't worry, it is a gradual thing I think!

I've used renapur for years and I've never had any stitching rot on me nor have I heard of it happening

Clean off the dead flies with baby wipes, that's all the leather cleaning I am bothered to do!

Renapur

I swear by this stuff Alan.

A small tub goes really far protects leather better than any other product ive tried.

To give you any idea, i brought a leather jacket in 2002, its been used every year through out the summer and covered over 16000 riding miles, ive looked after it and waxed it monthly, it still looks like new. I use it on my sidi boots too and again they are still in new condition, it will be the soles that wear out on them first now.

Its not that expensive either.

As for it rotting the stitiching, ive never heard this before or had this happen to me.

If youve never used it Alan my advise to you is buy a tub and try it you wont be dissapointed.

:thumbup

Cheers guys for all your responses, I reckon that I'll give this renapur a whirl first.

Hope it gets out the blood from me leathers. LOL

No it's not mine it from squished flies etc....

I use Saddle Soap, cheap and easily available from equestrian outlets. Gets the flies off a treat and has to be good for the leather. My leathers have white sleeves and I have noticed these have yellowed a bit, not sure whether that's the sun of the soap though?

Yeah the white on my arms was a little yellow looking till I used some baby wipes on them.

Reckon the previous owner was a heavy smoker!! LOL
