Always pissin down with rain Sussex
Just fitted a set of Pirelli Rosso II & they do not inspire confidence, rode out the entrance to my road & span it 90 degrees :confused:eek: so took it real easy & every corner the back end starts sliding. Found a big roundabout & started to lay it over more & more to wear off the shiney bits trouble is there's nearly an inch of shiney chicken strip left on eather side :jack but if it starts sliding at that angle it's going down. Never had this problem before :confused is it cos it's cold, is there a way to get rid of the slippy bits. Can't go out with my mates with tyres like this or I'll be on me arse in 5 minutes

New tyres are covered in a releasing agent coating which is lethal and the roads are very greasy this time of the year not a good combination you go over them with sandpaper to get it off or ride a B road that has a loose chipping surface which has a bit more grip and will get the coating off.

Cheers, best get the black & decker out then :biggrin

Just gradually increase your lean, a bit at a time until you've scrubbed off the release compound...

Same hear :roll always ended up getting new tyres fitted in the summer before so never had a problem scrubbing off the releasing agent, think I will just keep increasing the lean till it's all gone, just wondered if there was a chemical that would wipe the releasing agent off that's all :biggrin

I always put it on a paddock stand, run it in 1st and just gently run a flat file over the tyre tread and there you go a run in tyre.

Hey nik. those are good tires mate. But do not underestimate the lethality of that stuff. On pirelli`s in the last couple of years its particularly bad. Put a new set of supercorsas on the R6 same day as my mate put the rossos on his 749s. Came out of my road, turned left we gave it a very little weave.Boom we both hit the deck! And this was on a sunny Day, I couldnt believe it.
Do not under estimate it! I`v worn in alot of tires from different manufacturers many times, and this took me totally by surprise. I Usually get to or off the edges of a new tire in the summer first day I have em, but took awhile to trust them after that...

As for stuff to clean em with, brake cleaner and kitchen towel gets it straight off. Just do it until the towl is coming clean ;)

Thought I was a bit of a woose starting this thread but it took me completely by suprise, just like riding on ice :dunno

files, chemicals, sanding, all not good for a tyre.

just do it the old fahioned way...and ride the bugger...steadily at first, and away you go...job done.

it is a bit of an arse twitcher when the slide...but if you take your time, it's hardly a problem.

about 15years ago I fitted spangly new Metzler MEZ1's to my viffer...I was so excited to try them out, I threw it down the road at the first turn...I tend to spend a little more time scrubbing in these days.... :biggrin

I have had 2 sets of Rosso's and they are Brill.

I used to get my tyres at Mitcheldever near Winchester and the fitter told me that they had 2 or 3 accidents a month due to the volume of releasing agent on the twisty roads around their fitting center. The place is like a conveyer belt of people getting tyres non stop and all drive out dumping releasing agent on the road. If the tarmac were warm it would be more forgiving but with cold tyres as well it's a bit more scary.

Not at all mate. Its easy to think perhaps you`v just lost your mojo. Its only seems the last few years they`v been this bad. Like I said I used to scrub a set of spanking diablos edge to edge in the first 20 bends. That new set on the R6 took me totally by surprise, expensive lesson....
Oh and brake cleaner wont hurt your tires. If a mechanic gets oil on them during servicing. Thats what they`l use to clean it off. It lifts the grease out of the tire.

Also dont expect to be getting to the edge of the front of a latest gen pirelli sport tire in our winter on our roads without a few near misses. The profiles are damn steep now ;)
