Cheap solution to side-stand issue

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to share my solution to the infamous side-stand issue.

I have drilled & tapped a 6mm hole in the front of the foot of the stand then screwed 15mm of packing to the bottom of the stand. This makes the bike take on a much more upright position & far more stable than with the original stand all for the price of what was lying round the garage. I experimented with packing lengths & found 15mm was right for me.

I will stress that this is just a proof of concept fitment, not the final fix which I intend to make some sort of extension to the foot so the original footprint is in contact with the ground.

Mik.

Let some air out of the rear tyre and see how it falls over! :yes

Yeahhhhhhhh.......agree with above.

The problem with the euro stand is that it doesn't allow the bike to lean over FAR ENOUGH.
Without realising it, you've kinda made matters worse.

I think I must have increased ride height as with the original stand & the steering lock engaged, the bike was leant over so far it only took a light nudge for the bike to overbalance & fall over to the left. I had to leave it with the bars turned to the right to give it any sort of stability even on level ground.
Now with the extra 15mm it is rock solid even with the steering lock on.

Mate...I promise you....you need more angle AND the stand needs to meet the ground about 3" further out.
What you've done there HAS been done before. It simply does not work.

The known fixes are:
Get a US spec sidestand (by far the best option, but can be hard to source, and sometimes expensive...about £80)
Get a Fireblade stand. ( can't remember the exact model, but there are loads of posts....about £40)

FWIW, I was late to the party swapping mine, my bike got blown over by a gust of wind, £600+ of damage.

After reading all of the above posts and studying the picture, it has occoured to me that , the stand has been shortened and the foot re welded on. mebbee!!

I put a blackbird stand on mine, £20 delivered.
cheaper and easier to rind than the RR5 fireblade stand.
