hi all..

been a long time since i was on here - still have my rsv mille - had a few issues over winter - the old spag clutch went, but thanks to old griff at aprilia performance for the parts- this was sorted and replaced in brighton by my machanics. .

now my issues are charging/battery based.. - i have been through at least 3-4 solenoids in the last 6 months they all burn out due to low power on the battery (im guessing).. my thoughts were dodgy battery innitially - but i have been through 2 of these now also - i now run the upgraded ytx14bs..

after all this - i now think my issue is alternator based - ie - not charging battery properly - this then runs low - and struggles to turn over the engine more than once in the cold weather - if it doesnt start on that first hit - the battery runs low - and burns out the solenoid.. and all i get is clicking..

does this sound correct - could my issue be simpler than the alternator ie - grounding??
if i hit v batt while revving - i get a reading of 11.4 ish volts - which sounds low to me..

let me know your thoughts - as im sick of buying solenoids..

thanks nick

Yes too low even allowing for the dash known to be around .5 of a volt out.

You need to be looking at 14.0 - 14.5 (You ideally need a multimeter to check outputs)

But is it just the reg/rec or the alternator or both, you need to do some measurement checks.

0. Check status of alternator to reg/rec connectors
1. Check output from alternator
2. Check output from reg/rec
