Changing to an Ohlins Rear Shock on a 2007 Tuono R

I'm about to get my T serviced and the guys doing the service have recommended fitting an Ohlins rear and obviously getting the front end sorted out, but using the existing Showa as it is quite good. They suggested this after I asked what else could one do to the T if one had a few £££'s spare.

I was actually thinking about changing the rear shock but I would appreciate peoples thoughts. Is it the best £460 you would ever spend on the bike?? I already have Arrow cans, PCIII, K&N filter so the only thing left to upgrade is really the rear shock.

Has anyone changed to an Ohlins and if so what did you think after??

Yeah - £460 includes fitting?

It will handle a lot better, I fitted on on Liz's & they are much smoother & soak up bumps where the stock unit jumps about. The showa's aren't that bad properly set up, can be revalved if you want to.
 
go for any shock upgrade ohlins nitron wp etc they are worth every penny over the standard sachs ! or should that be sucks ! the sachs seem to not have enough dampin control squats and rebounds to much . really is the first upgrade anyone should do :thumbup

I know ohlins seems to be the norm as its fitted to the factory but has anyone fitted a wp? I like the look of the shock and the mx boys love em.... And being in touch with me feminine side the black white and red shock would look lovely in me t:thumbup
 
i changed the rear and put ohlins internals in the front!

I wish mine was as clean. Bit I'm a bit of a lazy buga when it comes to cleaning bikes.

What differences did you notice with the Ohlins and was it really worth the cost.

I did notice a difference but frankly for the normal rider it's not needed unless you run out of adjustment on the stock shock due to your weight. I bought the stuff I did because I have a good friend who owns a shop and I get super deals.

I cannot disagree more strongly. The Standard rear unit on a Tuono R is an absolute piece of crap. If you ride on an Ohlins (or equivalent) shod bike back to back on anything other than a billiard table the difference is immense and gets more pronounced as the shocks heat up and the stock unit fades out.

Don't take my word for it go onto AF1's website and ask in their Tuono forum, you will be bombarded with the same reply, "replace the POS - the forks aren't too bad."

I replaced the one on Liz's R model because it was hurting her back over bumps, I rode it before and after - almost a different bike.
 
If you say so. i too replaced it simply because others said to. Doesn't make it right. I noticed no difference between the two but I did limited riding on the sachs. Not saying it's not a good upgrade just simply saying the average weekend rider aint gonna notice a difference
 
I agree it all depends on how you ride. If you are regularly getting the rear to within a couple of millimeters off the edge of the tyre I'm hoping you'll notice a difference, if you still have a way to go to the edges then I presume the Sachs would suffice.

I have to agree with V60 Paul as the Ducati 999S I had for a while had Ohlins front and rear as standard and it was lovely to ride as the Ohlins definately did it's job rather well

Just got to hope there is a few hunderd £££'s down the back of the sofa and I think I'll take the plunge and go for an Ohlins rear shock.
