Changing rear wheel bearings

I have just changed the rear wheel bearings on my RSVR and this is not a prefered method I would imagine, but...if it helps.

Get two 10mm bolts, turn upside down and grind a key for the slots behind the bearing (Did quence them in water to harden them a bit). Put a couple of nuts on each end, fit into holes and cable tie the bolts together. From the other side of the wheel slide an old socketset extension bar with a suitiable size socket on the end through to the bolts. Give a little tap to drive the bearing out. Remove the guide tube from the wheel centre and circlip(Needle nose pliers did the trick) from the other bearing. A couple of little taps later and out pops the other side. Gentle tap the new bearing circlip side in using a old socket, which is fractionally smaller than the outside diameter of the bearing. Re-fit circlip and centre tube making sure the notches are at the other end to the circlip side bearing. Tap in the second bearing be careful not to drive it too hard against the centre tube, as this seems to make the bearings tight to turn.

If the wheel falls out next week then I will know this is not how to do it.

Any better suggestions? :pirate
