Chain tension/ S20 tyres

I've had an abba stand for 12 years or so and they're great, easy to use and when you change the bike just get a new set of adapters. The thing is that the mille and the haynes manual say 25mm of chain tension with the bike on a paddock stand, but with the abba every thing hangs uncompressed,so is that still correct? I mean, have I been running a tight chain for two years? The only thing is I haven't been that conscientious about it, a bit slack so to speak on the tensioning front, but if anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful. By the way I ha d a pair of Bridgestone S20's fitted a few days ago,so far they feel great, loads of dry grip and I'm waiting to see what they're like in the wet. They're supposed to be pretty good. The other thing is that a 190/50 doesn't catch the chain or the guard on a 2003 'R', though it is bloody close! Thanks.

I use an abba type stand and I still adjust to the recommended tension. I always check again afterwards with the bike standing on it's wheels without any load. I have not had any issues with chain being too tight or loose. I think you'd see some symptoms if your chain had been too tight for 2 years!

True. Thanks Rob. the only thing is I suppose that I tend to be a bit cautious and leave it slightly slacker than I should, you know, have it like that than too tight. Appreciated.

When I was a boy I overtightened the chain on my Suzuki X7. Ended up destroying the swinging arm bearings on the chain side.

As I said, I always do a final check with the bike standing on both wheels under it's own weight. The way I see it, the weight on the rear is pretty much identical to if it was on a paddock stand. I've never had to re-adjust at this stage.

Rob :)
