Hi Guys

Could do with a bit of advise.

I have spoken to quite a few people that say the gen 1 T can not be remaped in the standard way of flashing the ecu is this correct ?
I have also been told the only way you can gain performance with this model is to fit a power comander and relevant chip to account for the
mods you have done.
i have got a power commander for it but in the past on different bikes have found these a pain in the arse and quite tempermental.

On the other hand i have been in touch with a chap who has remapped the last 3 of my bikes , he is very very good at what he dose
and quite big on the racing scene.
he has told me that it is possible to do but a bit fidly, he also said there are great gains to having this work done.

Very confused.

So i am calling on all of you guys that are far more technical than me for a bit of assistance and your general veiws.

Cheers guys :thumbup

Yep,you dont flash the ecu on the Gen1.Fuel mapping is done by the eprom chip inserted in the ecu. There are loads out there to choose from,...depending on your bike set up,...exhaust,airbox,etc.
The best bloke to speak to is Griff at Aprilia Performance. He's had his hands on thousands of RSV's and Tuono's.What he does'nt know about them aint worth knowing.

I have a gen 1. Damn it's quick, especially torquey. Don't really understand why you need to remap but, I'm always remapping and changing turbos on my Imprezas so fair enough :thumbup

I put a forza chip in when Griff serviced my Tuoldo, it now wheelies with ease in third, might help me catch the fast riders oan the fudfests

Thanks for the advice guys i will speak to Griff

Im not after big power gains more to smooth out the power delivery as it is a bit jerky at the mo.

I just had the racing chip with my racing. Maybe with your racing gav you already have the chip installed. Have you checked your ecu out and had a check yet. I'd be surprised if a racing had the original chip in it for the road going original exhaust

After reading your last post mate I reckon that with the after market you have on the front and rear cylinder just need to be balanced up. I think that's what griff did to mine. Runs perfect when the baffle is in but runs like **** with it out. Not that I'd want to run with it out with the mivv I have on

Thanks for the advise Bay i think i will get this checked out.

I have not looked yet what chip the bike has in so i think this will be a good place to start then go from there.
I have just been pricing a few up on the net , blimy there are alot to choose from.

This is my first experience of a bike where you tune with chips .

Do these rearly work and is it rearly just a case of pluging it in and go ?
Sorry for all of the questions but this way of tuning is all new to me

Thanks Guys :thumbup

Hi Gav. From what I know the Gen 1 racing came with 2 chips. One for the road going original baffled road exhaust and one for race use to be used with the unbaffled titanium racing exhaust. However, many owners put aftermarket exhausts on so just left the racing chip in. If yoiurs has the original one in I'd be really surprised. My bike came with the 2 chips but I've never had the original one in.

When Griff serviced my bike he had to come back down as it was running a bit rough for some reason and backfiring. On one of the forum meets it was popping and backfiring. Anyway he came to my house and balanced up the front and rear cylinder and you could hear the difference in the sound of the engine. He asked me if I wanted ti run it with baffle in or out so I chose with baffle in. I've since changed the exhaust from the one I had to a MIVV GP but ride with the baffle in and it still runs sweet as. Take the baffle out and it jumps and isn't a smooth ride at all.

I'm not sure the chips make all that difference but meant you didn't have to do what Griff did when changing from baffled to unbaffled if you were going on the race track. Just choose the exhaust you want and go get the engine balanced to whatever pipe you have on there. I'm no mechanic but its what I reckon. Its probably same as Map 1 and 2 on the 2nd generation bikes but these can be programmed with a computer. With the Gen 1's its a chip. Maybe a Gabro chip might give you a little more BHP but you'd still have to get it balanced up by an Aprilia dealer in my humble opinion.

Guys please correct if I'm wrong ;)

:thumbupYep,...get the engine set up first before swapping chips.Throttle bodies need balancing and the Co will probably need adjusting. These little tweeks alone can make a huge differance in how the bike performs.

Cheers guys

Great advise now it is running an open air box and after market pipe it makes scence to get it all balanced up.

You'll prob find once all balanced and set up proper it'll be fine. These gen 2 machines are *****. You have the best one and I'll defy anyone else to prove different

That's the yin that I fitted tae my T P min, it has as you said made it a lot smoother but I fitted it at the same time as doing the chain and sprockets. The 16\44 combo helps with wheelies as well. Next mods are collector mod and rene airbox
