Right guys i am off to buy my first V Twin, the RSV Mille :biggrin

Picking it up Friday morning from a gentleman off this forum...

I no a fair bit about inline 4s but never bought or owned a twin

Is there anything i should look out or listen out for, i am sure the bikes sweet as a nut, its an 03 plate with 11k miles and it looks mint... But thats all i no no when it comes to the RSV, lol

Also does anyone have a nice exhaust and a pillion seat for an 03 model :D

I have a rentec grab rail and seat off 01 RSVR if that helps?

Just had my first one. Its great! Just sorting a few niggles. Much better than my old il4

Do a search on here for the following terms:

Battery
Starter Solenoid
Sprag
Starting Proceedure
Brown Connector

Pay attention to these few points and she'll be fine.
Good choice - you'll love it:thumbup

They're great fun, a little more care needed than with Jap bikes, BUT it's worth it!!..ENJOY!

just got back with it... and i am very happy with it, only 1 prob is that the rev limiter comes in very earlie at around 9k and rather harshly to, was like hitting a wall when i hit it, so the next question.... how can i move that further up the rev range?

The rev limiter is factory pre set on 2003 and earlier bikes to 10.5k. The flashing red led on the dash can be set to any revs you choose but it is only a flashing light and does not have any effect on the rev limiter itself. Your bike should rev to 10.5k before the limiter cuts in. You say it cuts in at 9k which would indicate a problem somewhere. Do you have a datatool alarm fitted?

to late, you should have bought japanese bike, this will be the start of your problems. hope you have deep pockets you will need them, wish i hadnt bought mine

yes bud there is an alarm fitted....not datatool tho, but i think its more than the limiter after riding it again, it just like cuts out when giving it some then goes again, very strange and quite concerning now.... would disconnecting the alarm help

Sidestand switch???

If its a guy from here surprise if its a real problem.

Doesn't matter if it starts in Guernsey - no where to ride it anyway. I'd sell it and get yourself a scooter mate.

that might be a good idea, LOL, im thinking of getting a honda only had the rsv 1 month and ive had enough

Dont do it.......................we are all here to help.......:thumbup It sounds as AMB67 says a **** battery or a Solenoid .

The solenoid is under the seat. Its a common fault.

ok cheers will get my mechanic mate to have a look tommorow, ive never had trouble like this with bikes before, im ******* pissed off, but when it works it is awsome i must admit it has character unlike a jap bike:thumbup

Kibb Dj, the vibtrations from the bike used to cause havoc with older Datatool alarms if incorrectly mounted causing the bike to cut out like you've explained. Also check the side stand switch as Areessmille has suggested as this also causes similar symptoms.

Another thing to check is the spark plugs. When were they last changed. Also check the plug leads.
