Buying a Demo?!

i have the chance to get a 2015 V4R for 10k USD. it has 365mi on it. now i dont know about your guys but when i take a demo out i beat the crap out of it, because i know im not going to buy that specific bike. i know its "bad" to not break it in correctly. that being said what do you think of buying a demo motorcycle?

First of why would you do that. Its not yours. And you could be screwing next owner. I doubt it but whats the point.
My tuono demo ride was 3 miles. And they were pretty guarded on letting me ride it with out a commitment.
Mostly around town to get a feel. With a salesman leading the way. I probably would not have abused it anyway. But thats me.
There is a ton of videos about the tuono factory to buy it regardless. If you are considering, ask the dealer how their demos are handled. Let them out on their own or guided. They can always hook up to it and see how it was treated if it were a problem.
Ive bought several used Ducati's over the years. Never a problem. And they are hard to baby.
Sounds like a sweet deal regardless. Go for it.

If the saving is enough then why not
Ask the dealer to make sure the recommended rpm has been adhered to for the 365 miles. TBH yes we all like to think we abuse a demo but if we are honest its high rpm in very short bursts and not on a track so is there any harm done. I bought new but had a demo been available I certainly would have looked and saving a few more pounds.

awesome thanks for the input guys, in the US i have never been on a guided demo ride so i guess they trust us? any how im definatly going to be checking it out tomo. unfortunatly its not the the 1100 factory its the V4R 1000

I wouldnt say its an issue, and only 365 miles is nothing really.

The thing to remember is that they would've done the routine servicing and given it close inspections before/after every ride.

It definitely worth having a look at! :)

If the deals is good and your happy with the bike and you have warranty on it go for it :thumbup

If the dealer gives you the same warranty as a new model go for it. If he/she doesn't don't.

With modern engines, there is a view, certainly for car engines, that pootling along at steady revs, and riding softly, is the worst way to bed an engine in. Can't imagine why this would be any different to a motorbike engine?!

In fact, sticking at constant speed causes dry spots, and extra engine wear. Design tolerances are much better these days. If such engines are driven too softly they take years to properly bed in. A typical indicator is oil consumption, which can drop off radically once an engine is properly bedded in.

Not saying it's right to thrash the guts out of a new engine... which could be somewhat fatal (to the rider!) on a Tuono, but moderately hard acceleration may not be so bad as we think.

I now have over 15K miles on my 14 demo. Have ben thru two stators but that has nothing to do with being a demo bike.
$10 K is a great deal!
