Besides the sidestand mod, I also put a new chain and sprockets on, which involved spending most of Saturday cleaning oily **** off with a toothbrush and parrafin!

Very satisfying when it's done and your in the pub afterwards though! It meant that I also got a chance to check the rear wheel and sprocket carrier bearings and to shove loads of grease in to stop water getting in. With the new chain installed and adjusted, I can actually get neutral quite easily.

I found some rust (!) on the oil tank:

I rubbed it down and slapped some hammerite on for now. I may have to take it off and paint it properly. Has anyone else seen similar on their bike?

I also fitted the RS125 mirrors and now in terms of rear vision, it's like driving a Volvo! That's he only similarity though. I dont have pics of this at the moment, but will post some soon. The quick release fittings for the seat also went on, for easy access to the battery etc.

I also cleaned and re-oiled the air filter and noticed a definate improvement - seemed to run a lot smoother. I found I had to adjust the idle down a bit after this as it was at about 1500.

Also gave her a bloody good wash and ACF50 ing - she's even more stunning now. She was a beautiful ornament for a while after the wash, as she wouldn't start for a while, until the ACF50 came along! They really don't like the wet do they! :biggrin

That reminds me to do my chain and sprockets.. Slight bit of rust on my (99) nothing too much bad..

I wonder if the sound proofing inside your side panel could have been keeping the oil tank wetter than usual ?? worth a look maybe.

Gave mine a jet wash and a good scrub to get the salty ***** of it today and sure enough .....no start either . Quick squirt of WD and a 40 min rest , whacked the throttle wide open and it eventually started with an almighty bang .

Thats it , it`s had it`s last jet wash , will just take a packet of wet wipes to it this time of year :thumbup

+1 with the rusty tank , think they come out of the factory like that :dunno

Darren / Rig - thanks, at least mine's not the only one with a rusty oil tank...

Got the foot welded back on the Fireblade stand this morning and put it on at lunch. I'm so pleased with this - it's solid as a rock now!

It's such a nice day today. Shame I have to work I'd rather be out charging the battery the fun way...
