Math can be tough sometimes, especially when it comes to counting, so we can understand the confusion surrounding the news that Erik Buell has recently been awarded a patent for a design that incorporates a motorcycle exhaust system inside the swingarm of the bike (now that’s some engineering). However we have the unpleasant responsibility of saying that this patent is not in fact owned by Erik Buell and Erik Buell Racing, as the filing date ...

They'd need some proper heat protection round that exhaust. Don't like the idea of it, imagine your swingarm starts stressing or summat. Blimey o riley.

I don't think it will work at all.

The pivot point means the amount of movement on the flexible link would be impossible to accommodate with materials that can cope with exhaust gas temperatures.

The outlet of the exhausts at the tip of the hugger, or along it's sides would be into the low pressure area of the bike, so the rider and especially the pillion will be breathing in carbon monoxide whilst riding - or other nasties if the system includes a cat.

What would they use for the flexing joint. It would get hammered on our roads. I wonder how big it would be and if I could core one :)

You'd find a way I'm sure!

great idea.....I've heard that the exhaust headers are routed through the fuel tank.
