Braking wave disc brakes

What do people think of these?

Anyone upgraded to the top end ones?

i have these on my mille they do stop extremly well,they are a bit noisy when braking hard...i.e sounds like they are eating the pads,but nethertheless they are excellent and look good,but then again i dont know what the standard brembo ones are like to compare..
 
was under the impression wavey discs dont improve stopping power at all, they just "self clean" and look pretty ;)
 
Isnt it something to do with cooling (due to increased surface area) as well. And unsprung gyroscopic weight reduction (coz day has bits missin!)
 
Wavy discs are ****! The idea behind them is to improve cooling as suggested. However, 99.9% of riders will never get the discs hot enough to need the extra cooling on either road or track. Plus they eat pads like no ones business.
How many race bikes have you seen with wavy discs mmmmmm none. You need as much pad disc contact as possible in order to stop. So how is cutting big lumps out of the discs going to stop you quicker?
Nothing wrong with them for road riding however and are usually cheaper than other non-wavy discs. So dont let me put you off if you are getting a good deal on them
 
Its true every wavey i`v ridden on felt *****. Just thought they must be cheapies...
 
Have had Brake Wave rotors on my 03R for 3.5ys now & have nothing but excellent things to say about them .... They have never felt **** & don't eat pads have had the same EBC race pads in from brand new when I put the rotors on ... Read alot of info about the good & bad stuff people had heard but **** all by those that had actually tryed them !! .. Have put Wave rotors onto most of my customers bikes after letting them try my bike . After spending 14K on developing my 03R over the last 4ys I can say there isn't fuckall that I haven't tryed or used to improve not only the power or handling or stopping of my bike ....

its the same as everything else you get what you pay for,buy cheap you usually get ****.!
 
Ive got these on my Mille R and i love them but then again i have never had the standard ones to compare to either.
 
the std brembo doscs are VERY good imo, I did put Galfer waves on mine and the stopping was good and they are lighter then stock...BUT..since I used the mille in allweathers the bobbings wore away a groove on the alloy plates ...AND they dont do a bobbin re-kit for them..bastids..sat on the shelf now

PS-I also remember you needed a mortgage to afford a full front set of Galfer pads. The rear disc was an improvement on the oe one..and looked ace.
 
i will agree with the waveys eat pads comment.. rear brake started feeling like **** then got noisy, not long after NEW pads to so i figured i just needed clean them and add some copper grease

i got home and discovered the pads had got revenge after being eaten and ate the disc.. bugger

i mean brand new pads (the same brand i have used for 5 years..) should last way longer than 500 miles, it aint like the brakes get that much use either!!

i dont know, maybe i just got unlucky and the pads were a dodgy batch that fell apart or something.. but now im gettin warnings at the MOT for worn out disc thats only bout 2 years old :'(
 
Personally I would go for PFM disc's, only three parts to them and all available separately. So the other up side to these is if you change bikes you can buy new carriers and keep the disc's for the new bike, they are available in profiled or standard profile.

I was looking for a gold disc colour to match my Aprilia.

No chance of me changing bikes yet.

I like the sports profile one though.
 
I paid £250 for a set of Wavy Armstrong front discs which seemed great when I fit them in July 2010. One year later, they are warped. Definitely not the bobbins, can't think it can be anything else. I decided to live with it for a few months until I did a track day at Snetterton, when every looming bend felt like a whacker plate through my handlebars. Not happy!!

Now got a set of used OEM discs with 5k miles on them. (£90) Told they are straight but will see when I fit them this afternoon. Got another track day end of October, same venue. Fingers crossed for decent brakes!!
 
Ive had Braking USA rotors on my bike for a couple of years and never needed to change my pads (Brembo) they are just as good as the brembo rotors, never had any trouble with them. I just sold them because i got tired of the look and wanted to go back to standard rotors.

Got some of these pfm discs off tash, and i like um,people look at them and think i must have a big **** , at least i hope they do,bike seems to stop fine and no complaints . mind you perhaps i should have found some gold ones cos they would match my forks romeo and juliet over and out, ps got an armstrong wavy on the back cos i asked tash about a rear and think im right in saying they werent available, but me back brake has always been iffy ie has a lot of travel but knocks enough speed off in those oooh fek moments,pippip keepsafe.
