only outer ring type differ. (and the shape which is not important)

is there any difference? i know that my 2003 has 4 pin brake calipers but how come that the stx073d should fit only 98-00 models? the 01 models should be also the same. shouldn't it?

its probably a disclaimer thing that the vendor won't commit, the offset looks right as does the inner and outer diameters, PCD looks right as well if that the "bolt pattern" statement? I would say that they look to be the same discs by the spec sheet!

Is one cheaper than the other? if not whats the issue? no stock, easier to source?

The difference will be in the swept area which is not shown in the parameters above.
Discs on 02 Model onwards are all the same.
1999-2001 discs have a larger swept area, this is because the pads in the 2 pad caliper type require a larger swept area. If you fit a disc from a 4 pad caliper bike to a 2 pad caliper the pads will overlap the edge of the material.

You can use 99-2001 discs on all bikes but you cant use 2001 onwards discs on the earlier bikes. Well actually you can but you may have some pad material overhanging the discs which is not ideal.
