Brake Caliper Finish Cracking??

A

amb67

My lovely Brembo brake calipers painted finish is all cracked, looks like crazy paving.

Has anyone else got this problem?

Looks like it's going to be a removal job, anyone recommend a good brake caliper paint kit?

Hammerite is as good as any i have used and they have a large selection of colours, can easily withstand the heat even the standard stuff, I have used it in the past without any problems :thumbup

Have you got any piccies of your caliper painted with Hammerite?

Would be interesting to see the finish it gives.

Sorry mate i havent, i used smooth hammerite when i was a whipper snapper on my cars , not used on bike although i would do without a 2nd thought.

Suppose it will have to be smooth Hammerite, can't be any worse than the crazy paved look I have at the moment.

Cheers for your responses.

Hmmm! Now what colour shall it be??

I think I'll be really boring and stay with gold for now.

Rotten, the bike doesn't ever see the rain never mind go out in it. Looks like it is heat cracking possibly from a previous siezure.

Nope, never use water on my bikes.

All the rust is down to a nasty previous owner.

Don't worry, my winter project commences soon and all the rusty bolts will be gone.

Amb, it looks like that caliper has been painted before. From your photo, you can just about see the original finish ( slightly brighter gold colour ) below the centre brembo logo on the 2nd photo

I used smooth silk finish hammerite on the calipers on my previous bike. Still looked good and new after 6 years.

Legs is correct, me thinks. That crazed paint is definitely not the true colour of Brembo gold.

Right on the nail there LEGS..certainly looks that way to me also.:thumbup

A good strip back and some fresh heat resistant paint and she be looking brand new again.

Just had a good old look at my rear caliper and you guys are right, it's a different colour gold to the fronts.

Will remove it at the weekend and get a new seal kit a bit of nitro mors paint remover and a tin of Hammerite smooth gold spray paint.

The cracking is obviously a reaction between the two paints.

Spot on amb67, definately a paint to paint reaction... as you say mate.
Good luck with the refinish for a new looking caliper. :thumbup
