TOOK BLING BLING FOR HER FIRST MOT TODAY AND SHE STARTED PINKING ON THE WAY . DO YOU THINK THIS IS DOWN TO ASDA PETROL . I WAS IN 3RD AT ABOUT 28 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED UNDER ACCELERATION :confused

sorry... i cant help... but im sure someone will... im just jealous... wish my bike could do 28mph in 3rd without being a bucking bronco !!

If nothing else supermarket fuel is poor quality.

It's cheap because they take out many of the additives that lubricate the upper cylinder parts. Nowt for nowt very true in this case.
There was a guy on rsvr.net that worked for BP and posted up all the bits supermarket fuel was missing but i can't remember what exactly.

May or may not be your cause in this case but supermarket fuel not great for long term continuous use.

Pinking - pre detontation, low octane fuel/carbon build up causing cylinder to run hotter than usual or plug range too hot. If it's been fine up until that tank chances are it's the fuel.

Thanks boys , gonna go back to bp ultimate from now on ,am just lazy as asda is nearer ...

Have you tried V Power in your bike mate ?, it's what I use in mine. The bike seem's to run much better in my opinion, I get better throttle response, and I seem to get more MPG with it too.

Shell V Power is my bikes favourite tipple!

Hasn't yours got Lambda/knock sensors fitted, if yes it shouldn't suffer from pre detonation?

Oxygen sensors mounted in the exhaust system measure the contents of the gasses expelled after combustion has taken place and a knock sensor sits on the side of the engine and listens for a certain harmonic range and when it detects it the ECU alters the ignition timing.

This stops the 'pinking' you heard, allegedly!!

Sorry mate didn't mean to confuse matters!!

LOL That reads wrong doesn't it?

I never meant that you hadn't heard it pinking, more that the combination of Lambda and knock sensors should allegedly stop the pinking. :eatcorn

**** FUEL THEN EH ? WILL GIVE IT A GO:thumbup

I work with Mercedes-Benz UK and remember well the supermarket fuel fiasco, caused millions of pounds of damage to customers cars.

Never touched supermarket fuel since that nightmare.

Tried them all and stick to Shell, best quality fuel on the market at present! (I know as I had pretty much all of the major brands tested)
