on the way to work on the embankment... along side a nice white Audi RS8... i bang the throttle one... shoot off... then nothing... lost engine power... ignition all on... but no revs rising when throttle blipped... so indicating to go towards the pavement... & Mr RS8 shoots pass with a little friendly 'BEEP BEEP' !! :roll

took the handlebar throttle mechanism off & yep... cable snapped... 15 mins from work !! :biggrin

so had to ride with both hands on the left hand bar... left hand steering/clutching... & right adjusting the speed via the choke lever... got upto 50mph in 1st... lots of fun @ 0850am in rush hour traffic !! :biggrin

Carol Nash recovery have now whisked my bike upto Southern Cross... getting both cables replaced to be on the safe side... luckily they were both in stock... Metropolis said they would have to order from Italy !! :roll

Mate...are you saying you were charged £216 to replace both throttle cables or did that include any recovery costs?

One of my cables broke recently, they cost about £40 for the pair to purchase and although I'm not particularly experienced in mechanical things I changed them both in under an hour so I would have thought a professional mechanic could probably do it 30 mins.

not quite... lol... my bike was booked in 2 weeks from now for a change of suspension linkage... Southern cross phoned me up today saying the cables are being fitted... & they are changing the linkage aswell... i went "yer... no probs" thinking that the throttle linkages were seize which made the throttle cables wear quicker !? :dowhat

went to pick up the bike not putting 1+1 together... £216 !! :biggrin

they did the shock linkage too... oh how i laughed... not !!

:biggrin

on a good note... i dont have too go back in 2 weeks !! :pirate

cables £16 each
exchange linkage £94
labour 1.25hrs £62.50
+ vat = £215.63

Dunno what the linkage costs but 1.25 hours to do both jobs seems quite fair. I know dealers that would have stung you for a lot more.

Sounds reasonable considering the 'additional' work. There are several garages near me that charge over £90 per hour for labour.

That looks like a fair price to me too and at least you know your jobs been done by some of the best Aprilia technicians around. :doug
