On way home bike cut out...started as i was on a hill and the starter wouldnt start it.....it idled at 3000 rpm but got me home...Battery is 12.8 volts

Once home i pressed the starter.... click...click....buzz sound and then the dash cuts out...no lights at all....turned off ignition...on again...nothing no lights....no fuel pump prime nothing

Checked ALL fuses and they are fine..
Have spent 5 hours pulling the loom and checking for shorts...nothing

Any ideas please

replaced the loom last year as 2 wires had burnt and shorted out

Can a battery shorting out cause this.. ?

Sound like either a dodgy battery (i have had them showing good voltage but not able to supply any current) or maybe a dodgy ground wire somewhere?

attached the car battery via jump leads....still no Dash lights or anything....no immobiliser light either...fuses are ok

I checked the earth cables.....they seem fine.........will make a new one and attach it ...see what happens tomorrow :S

Have you a multimeter? May be worth checking the ignition (key) switch is ok?

Just had a look on my bike (front ends stripped down anyway) and the plug to the ignition switch is located behind the dash (you prob know this if you got the loom out) on the left hand side....its a white plastic 4 way plug. If you disconnect it and measure (male side of the plug) with a meter with the key turned to the on position the 2 wires at the left side of the plug should be 0 ohms (short) as should the 2 wires at the right side of the plug if that makes sense? Basically each pair consist of one red and one green wire. If they are ok then the lead from the ignition switch goes to the secondary fuse box "ignition" and "signals" and then on all over the place. Was a bit shocked on seperating that plug just now at how corroded the pins in there were.

I have..... going to make a new earth cable tomorrow and see what that does

Looks like it was a Bad Earth..have cleaned all the earths and ran 2 new cables, one to the sub frame and one straight to the rectifier plug, now have power and it started fine.......few more tests and then a test ride

cheers guys for ya help

right hand side indicator still flashes fast now and again though.....hoped this was going to solve that problem as well
