Right, My odo ticked into 11000 miles yesterday, that means I have only 1000miles until the big 12K service.

Whos had it done recently? any idea on costs?

Got a feeling i'm about to spend alot of money... Especially as my tyres may need replacing soon too, and possibly chain and sprockts:banghead:bawling

All things to consider when buying. Curious myself as they come every 6k miles. But the smiles they bring out weighs the cost. Set aside any extra cash you may recieve. You know its coming.

Griff did mine and it was around £300 but that included the TBs getting done, he also set up the suspension as well. That was a 3 years ago so price might have went up. That was for a gen 1.

I picked up my V4 just over a month ago, they did a 12000 mile service before I picked it up, he said it would of cost me £800 if I had paid for it. They did have to replace something though, I don't have my service book with me at the moment, so I can't remember what was replaced (quite sure it was something to do with the valve clearances)

From what I've observed £800 sounds about right for a full service with adjustment of valve clearances.

But your best using a service agent that won't charge for valve adjustment if they don't need actual adjustment, which can save several hundred pounds. Folks like AP will only charge for the actual valve adjustment if they need adjustment. Others charge irrespective if they need adjustment.

As you can imagine, big labour difference if zero valves need re-shimming verse all 16 valves need re-shimming on a V4.

From a V2 perspective, valves rarely need re-shimming.

Paul D is correct, I have checked my service and they didn't replace any parts, they adjusted the valve clearance, hence the £800 price

They should have replaced the valve cover gaskets and clutch cover gasket if they had to adjust the valves and also charged you for whatever shims they needed.

As mentioned above a valve check is not too labour intensive, but if any need adjusted, particularly on the inlet side it becomes very labour intensive hence the cost.

Thats a stupid price, Im used to being bent over on service costs from the Ducati but even that never cost me quite that much!

I watched the tech while he was changing my inlet cams. Sounds like a simple job eh.

**** no.

Clutch cover off, generator cover off. Flywheel off.

Lock up pins inserted here there and everywhere.

Lock up pin for the front inlet cam had to be modified as it only fits through it hole with the engine out.

Cams out, buckets out,

New cams and buckets in. cams in.

Check clearances and then pull the cams again to set the four that were out of spec.

re-install everything.

i have absolutely no complaints about cost after watching him work on my bike and seeing first hand what was involved.

FECK! I'd better star saving some more pennies up then Or it will have to sit in the garage to stop the mileage climbing

Just wondering how much I could make by selling myself on a street corner! Might be the only way to keep the damn thing running

My V2 full service at AP was about £360, although I didn't need brake or clutch fluid replaced or brakes checked/cleaned. They normally charge about £400 for the full service for a V2... which includes taking off both cam covers and checking valve gaps.

BUT if any valve needs re-shimming, cams need removal and new shims inserted to reset the correct gaps. As Rizla outlines, that takes quite some work = time.

The main consolation, is the V2's (and I believe the V4's) rarely need "re-shimming".

I've heard of V2's running 50k miles without needing valves re-shimming.

So, find a garage that doesn't charge a fixed price irrespective of whether valves need re-shimming or not, cos they will usually be much cheaper if you don't need more than one or two valves re-shimming.

PS: My V2 Gen1 had about 25k miles clocked. After AP worked their expertise on balancing throttle bodies, plus Forza chip and retune, bike was much smoother, sharper on the throttle and no problem starting. It was money well spent.

I'll be taking it down to Crescent in Verwood, they used to be a Aprilia dealer and are the very same Crescent that own the race team :) Their showroom is like a museum for race bikes, brilliant! I know they're pretty flexible with their workings too, so hopefully i wont get taken to the cleaners
