Hi guys. Need a new r/r and have read lots of posts on other forums yet still none the wiser! Some threads recommend a series r/r such as sh847 or ce605 and some recommend upgrading to a better shunt r/r such as the mosfet fh020. My understanding so far is that the series r/r is recommended due to repeated stator failures. However, I've read that gen 1 rsvs' don't suffer from stator failures. I've a 2003 tuono. All three stator wires are giving 60/ 64 /68 ac volts at 4000 rpm. Anyway my r/r needs replacing (did a diode and resistance test - failed). What's the best option, a series or shunt r/r?

mosfet is always better than a shunt. the shindengen ones are pretty good.
I've got a ricks motorsports electrics shunt r/r in my 03 T and it's been great since the oem unit packed a sad. If i could have afforded it i'd have go their mosfet one, but funds wouldn't allow. It's been in there for coming up on two years now and performed faultlessly
GenII's have the stator failures. a stator failure is pretty rare on our bikes

No problem. If you use the Rick's shunt, bear in mind it is thinner than the OEM, so don't put the bolt thru the subframe (mine was replaced under a second hand bike warranty and the monkey didn't check... Those subframes are surprisingly soft)
Now that you mention the subframe. I see that a previous owner disconnected the original negative wire to battery and just connected a new negative battery wire and grounded it to the subframe where the petrol tank mounts. Is this a modification to be concerned about?
