15w50 semi synthetic is what is recomended by Aprilia. Try Silkolene Comp 4, Rock Oil Guardian Sigma, Aqip Tec 4T or Putoline Sport 4
My dealer recommends synthetic 10w40 in the Rotax motor, despite what the manual says. Anybody have thoughts on this?

Hi guys - my rsv in at moment at Aprilia dealer, specificcaly for a oil change - I asked them same question - their answer was if lower mileage ( 10k and below ) use normal good brand oil - like Castrol. If mileage higher then go Synthetic / semi synthetic. Their reasons being possible clutch slippage if you change to early to the synthetics. So - at this stage not sure either,
15/50 (Semi Synth) is whats recomended for the UK & Europe, a lighter grade 10/40 is probably more acceptable in warmer climates, but still Semi Synth.
There are many knowledgable dealers out there but i would imagine the man that who works for aprilia and recommends oils to them probably knows what hes talking about.
Our riding season is pretty much the same climate as England's - just shorter...
Rode it home with the 10w-40 synthetic & parked it. Shifting felt different & it "rattled" more at idle. Driving back to pick up some Motul 15w-50 & a new filter.

Silkolene comp 4 15W50 for me. Change it myself tho cos my local aprilia stealership charges £150 for oil and filter change!!
Looking on Opie Oils web site that's fully synth at £42, think I will stick with Semi Synth and Motul at £26 :thumbup
