Morning all,

Well, after the Mrs pranged the car last week and i'm now shelling out £450 on insurance excess i can't afford for griff to service my forks as planned.....:angry:angry

So, i'm planning on changing the oil and filter on the mille (and blackbird) to keep me occupied.

Can you recommend a good oil and filter to use on the mille?? Is it worth going the k&n route??

Cheers all................:thumbup

for peace of mind i will always be using k&n oil filters, i had the unfortunate oppurtunity to compare how well standard filters work compared to k&n when the clutch decided to eat itself. i strongly regretted having used a cheap filter after the k&n i fitted not long before got ruined, i have since had to replace it again (bloody clutch did the same thing twice..)

plus its just my personal opinion but i reckon a standard sized k&n filter allows at least as much oil flow as those new longer filters

at the end of the day its your bike and you know what you are comfortable with, if you want to trust a cheaply made filter to keep all the crap out of the oil should the s*t hit the fan then thats your choice

an extra 6 quid or so isnt bad, i really think its like the oil aswell. you should never go for cheapest, go for whats best
:thumbup

i find ebay is a great place to find good deals on the k&n filters so make sure you have a good look around to find the best place before you buy

Andi mate!

Ive just done a oil and filter change. I brought the new longer filter and cast alloy cap with long series caphead bolts for approx £20, i think you can get these off ebay for slightly less.
I was told that aprilia released this new filter mod last year due to there being an issue with oil pressure on some older bikes so thought it was well worth doing.

Yes i recon K+N filters are better if your wanting more miles from the bike between oil changes but lets face it if your bikes serviced regular then standard is more than good enough IMO.

I used the Motul 5100 15/50 semi, good value for money and i must say gear changes are smoother aswell as a smoother sounding engine.

Total cost £51.50 :thumbup

you can find those as a kit on ebay usually, they are normally around 20-25 quid

i find 'pressure problems' hard to believe, they continued to use the shorter standard size filters up until around 2006, plus as i said in my earlier post a k&n has better flow than standard cheapy filters, which would alleviate any problems a longer filter might fix

i cannot see any reason to pay twice as much for something with no apparent benefit over the k&n

MMMmmmm.......once again food for thought!!! Cheers Wolf mate, i can et a K&N delivered for a tenner so will go for that as cash is a bit tight at the moment!! Thanks again bud, and you too UK................:thumbup
