Hiya,

I am off to Almeira in March :nana and have been thinking about the gearing on my 2002 factory, i have currently got 15 45. Do you think i should change it? I beleive it has quite a long back straight so i might run out of puff. What do you think? :dunno

When I was out there I was running standard gearing 17/42, since switched to 15/42.

with standard gearing I was getting up to about 152 before breaking so didn't see the point in such tall gearing. So recon 15/42 would be perfect.

Also 15/45 :eek:you must have a hard time keeping the front wheel on the ground.

Yes just a little bit, hence the reason for worrying about top end. So the problem with yours was not revving out i guess? Gearing too tall? I think mine may be the opposite, running out of gears.

I think Skrall is close at 15/42, but you do lose some drive in the infield, 15/45 is to low without a doubt, if it was me i would go with the 15/42 to start with.

My 04 bike was on 15/46 and topped out at 152 about half way along the straight, IL 4's whizzing past me like i was stopped, i could have has a cup of tea whilst waiting on braking, to put this into context, my mates R1 (TUNED) was still accelerating before he knocked off to brake.

He would pull a minimum of 100 mtrs on me on the longer straight.

There is no doubt about it you will be underpowered compared to 1000 IL 4's, don't get hung up about it just ride the wheels of the twin in the infield section and have fun:thumbup

Thanks i will order up a couple of options i think, my bike is quite well tuned, so not too worried about the power, just the gearing, dont want to be in the way on the straights when it tops out, any idea who is cheapest for ally sprockets?

Talon is who i use:thumbup

Dunc, my bike makes 138 at the rear, it is no slouch as far as the Mille's go, but giving away 30bhp is the problem.

I agree mate, i still enjoy my twin tho, i'm sorry but the racket yhem fours makes just dont do it for me, twin akro,s all the way, woohoo. I think i will order a 42 and a 43 to take with me, hope i dont need to shorten the chain, spindle is all the way forward as it stands now. Roll on March.

Feck me just noticed what you have in your garage you lucky b,stard.

Nice collection mate, i am liking your track bike a lot, whats them cans on it? Are you doing any trackdays this year? Oulton Park is my local track, when the wife begins to forget the Almeira trip i will be out for a few more, i love Oulton, great circuit and just down the road, woohoo!

Those are standard cans i cored myself, they work very well and have some bark to them.

Oulton is a proper track, in fact i would say it is my fave track in the UK, wish i stayed a bit closer to it.
