Over the last week or so I have been out test riding all of the alternatives I can think of for the T, as there's a chance I will have a one-off opportunity to buy myself a new toy.

First off I tried a Jap multi naked, the CB1000r - I managed less than 5 minutes on that before being bored rigid by it and took it straight back. It was far too much like a sewing machine, bland and pointless.

Next up was the V4T - abso-*******-lately awesome - seems to be exactly what I was hoping for, a tighter, meaner, newer version of the twin, and with a decent pipe on it could match it for noise too. Downside is the smaller range, from the smaller tank and harder seat.

Next was the latest Brutale - 1090RR - again, an incredible bike, the engine is an absolute peach, the induction roar is addictive, the handling is superb, but it's still an inline 4, and not as interesting as the V.

For some bizarre reason, I allowed myself to be talked in to trying out a Victory Hammer S by the MV dealer. I have to admit that I had more fun in a couple of hours on that than I had on the Brutale. Probably because it was such unexpected fun - I had expected so little from it, that when it delivered huge amounts of torque, and interestingly acceptable handling, I was really surprised, and even managed to get to start feeling confident enough to chuck it around quite well.

Today I took a Diavel and a Multistrada out. The Diavel was fantastic, the noise was great, the power was brilliant, and again, ince you get used to it, you can imagine it is quite good at being chucked around. The 'strada was just what the writeups all say, a really, really good all rounder, but almost too good ... There was no real character to it for me.

I got back on my T for the 30 mile run home, and realised that none of them match up to the Tuono. I had such a blast on the way back, that it actually took me nearer a hundred miles to get back.

If I do get the money, I will still swap it out, but only because it has let me down too often, and the new T is so incredible (and has a warranty :), but I will miss it.

Interesting write-up mate, and a very similar experience to mine.

Up until 2 days ago I was a Yamaha Fazer 1000 owner, but looking to move on, I test-rode a Brutale 920, a Kawasaki Z1000SX, and Tuono, all on the same day.

There was absolutely no contest, as the Kwak was boring (WTF has happened to Kawasaki, as ALL of their big bikes used to be mad, not just the ZX`s), and the Brutale was, as you say, a very nice IL4.

I thought about it overnight, just to compare prices elsewhere, then bought the Tuono the next day.

What a bike !!! :thumbup

You both should have tried a Speed triple as well. :sly

I miss my Tuono but i don't miss the ***** and shoddy service I got from Aprilia.

I rode a Speed Triple a year or so back before I bought the T, i found the T to be the best for me at that point.

If I am going to replace the T it has to be with something a little special, and the Trip is not quite special or unusual enough for me, for this particular purchase, whereas the V4T will be, at least for a while.

maybe but if you don`t get the speed 3 serviced by Triumph they don`t want to know.

I like my tiger 1050 with all the bits etc but unless serviced with Triumph I am on my own ????

I will be in the same boat with the " T " but I can get them sorted if needs must .

Good bike is the Speed 3 , If I didn`t have the " T " i would have one

I must admit, the Speed Triple just doesn`t do it for me lookswise. I`m not saying it`s a bad bike at all, cos I haven`t ridden one, but I don`t like the tank-shape, and those round headlamps on the front. Beauty in the eye of the beholder, and all that.......

The lamps were my concern when I bought the Street 3 but you get used to them. Triumph then change the lamps to something like Walt-er (some robot thin in movies)

The speed is very similar to the " T " but can acceleraate in top gear whereas you need to drop a couple of cogs on the " T " , descent machine.

I test drove the CB1000R. It was comfy enough and seems to handle ok but YAWN! quite boring. I took a blade out back to back with it and it just goes to show what honda have done. The blades motor is wonderful in comparision to the thou. I think I agreed on the "flat bar" bike somewhere else on here. If honda had put the blade out with the flat bars and no fairing etc....it would have been a harder to choose.

Agreed (albeit I think nakeds lend themselves to big twins rather than IL4s). Trouble is the Japs havn't got the balls to punt out a naked with a full fat sportsbike engine, they always castrate them. The current Z1000 is their best effort to date, but the transformer looks are a turn-off for me. The Italians and Austrians have no such fear... :thumbup

what aboot a ducati fighter, ****** awesome and as luck would have it im sellin mine at 9 month old wi £££££££££'s o extras and its minter than mint,,,,:thumbup

thought about the Streetfighter, but I think they're just too focused, and if they're so good, why are you selling a 9 month old bike that you've spent a fortune on ? and the Ducati dealer didn't have one for a demo !!

Just got rid of a Prilly Dorsoduro 750 which I had from new for 18 Months. It was a great twisty back road bike & was really good fun. With me on it 18st+ it topped out at about 118 & was prone to being blown about on open A roads so not great for any distance work. So worked well with another bike in the garage but not enough of an all rounder on it's own. I got a 05 Tuoldo to see whether I'd like a new one & was smitten after the first ride out. Grateful I waited until this year for getting a new one as I got a really good deal. £6800 on the road with 12 Months Tax.

one answer tae yer question mani,,,,, self employed jiner+reccession+bike on finance = have to sell it

Try the new 1100 monster evo. Loads of fun

CB1000R and Z thou are dull as. Give the FZ1 naked a go, completely different kettle of fish and shows what a naked IL4 can be

I`ll second that.

I`ve just chopped my FZ1 in for the Tuono, and having tried a Z thou, I agree that the FZ1 is a quicker, more exciting bike to ride.

Neither are in the same league for fun as the T, though !

ahm no believin that robbo, if ye were offered this on a plate o salad ye widnae turn it doon :)

So do you reckon a T is more fun than the FZ1 Fazer. I test rode a Kawasaki SMX1000 & too thought it was boring & very predictable.

Aye Sean thats a braw looking machine, maybe do a straight swap fir the Tuoldo if a dealer were up fir it:yes
