Evening folks...... my spruce up of the bike over the winter (well last few days) has been going soooooo well....... until today.

Replaced the lower crash bungs on me 2004 rsvr as the old one on the rhs had been scrubbed...... then went to fit 2 new top ones (as they were missing but the mounts there) to find that it fouls the fairing...hmmmmm

Managed to get the tio bolt out (which was rather bent, but i cannot get the lower one out! the hex has rounded off to add to things! I have managed to cut away the old mount so i just have the bolt exposed, but the bugger wont budge! Ive tried an impact drive and mole grios to no avail! Has anyone suffered similar? My misery continued when the hex key rounded, i slipped and snapped the bottom off of the water reservoir!!! arghhhhhh new one ordered tho (thanks chavbay!)

Any suggestions greatly appreciated (failing that, someone good in the medway area to help :0) lol

Something that immediately comes to mind is to get a blow torch on it, give it a really good blast (preferably stop before it glows!!) This should be enough to loosen any corrosion or loctite on the thread that's stuck it it in place. Once it's cooled a little, it should be easier to remove. I've done this a few times before with mixed success.

These are excellent though... Screw extractors You normally get a selection of them when you buy a tap and die set, which may also come in handy for you by the sounds of it!

Mike.

Cheers - i was contemplating a stud extractor, but if the bolt shears, in kinda buggered as they are engine bolts :0(

Might run the bike up to temp first to see if that helps it rather than blow lamp it..

Ahh I see what you mean. I didn't realise they were engine bolts. Blow torch probably isn't such a good idea in that case! I'd go for the stud extractor. If it shears, just drill deeper into the bolt and extract the thread. It'll come out eventually.

borrowed some grips tonight...... just need some heat lol

poxy awkward ****** to get to as well with mole grips!
