Back Protectors

Hi,

I am doing a trackday next Week and want to buy a back protector this weekend. Can anyone recommend any good ones to look out for? needs to be comfortable/adjustable for someone over 6ft.

Thank you
Chris

It was a hassle to find one to fit my (rather tiny) waist,
but eventually I got a Knox Contour back protector, which I'm very pleased of.
It's very light but solid and it held up great during my 4000km biketrip and my first trackday right after that :)
Otherwise I would recommend a Dianese protector as most (if not all) my bike (and track) friends use them. My boyfriend is 6'4 and he has a Dianese as well :thumbup

Well thanks for all of your advice, as a local dealer stocks the Knox ones and they get a decent amount of recommendations on all the other Aprilia forums think I'm gonna get one of them at the weekend.

Hopefully I won't be testing it out fully.

I was going to say Knox too. Thats what I have used for racing for the last 5 years. Came off plenty of times and its always done its job! I would reccomend the race one that gives more protection to your coxis but depends on how far you lean over the bike when riding. Not very comfortable if your sitting upright. The roll up ones seems a good idea but I went for the best protection over practicality.

That's great chris, glad to have been of some help, I'm sure you won't regret it :thumbup

Oh and one tiny hint of advice: when I first got mine I strapped it on too tight and I got a pretty bad back ache after riding an hour or so, and thought I had gotten the wrong protector :blush luckily a friend of mine told me not to strap it too tight (you still have to be able to get a few fingers in between), and thus saved me from a hernia :laugh

which type of protector do you mean, TM? Mine is the third one from the top, and it covers every bit of spine I have in my body :laugh

Cheers Pumpkin thanks for the tips, I am going to look at the 9 Plate race one as I've been told it's the one to go for. My leathers have got some protection built in to them but I think a back protector is a safer bet especially as the weather is probably not going to be very good next week. Who knows it might even be snowing by then...

Take it easy
Cheers

whoa, trackday in the snow that would be a nice challenge :laugh

Is it your first trackday? I had my first one in September when it was raining cats and dogs, luckily it cleared up by the end of the afternoon and we managed to get two dry sessions :hail If you care to read my write up on the day, here you go link :thumbup

Be sure to post a write up here, I'd like to hear about your day! :)

No its not my first, I have done some other trackdays (not many) but they've always been in the summer and everyone of them its been dry & sunny.

This is my first this late in the year so should be interesting? It's not on the mille by the way its a Supermoto only trackday so I'll probably either be wobbling around at the back of the novice group trying to stay upright or bin it on the first bend of the first lap. Think my amibition is probably greater than my tallent (ie; I am a clueless, tallentless ****** on a motard). At least now my back will be ok if I should fall off. Cheers.

Will give your write up a read through 2nite,cheers. I'm not very good at writing stuff like that so don't expect too much of a write up on my day if any.

:laugh well, enjoy yourself, that's the only thing that counts anyway! Which track are you going on?
I'll probably do several trackdays in the UK next summer on the RSV, I'm very much looking forward to it though I think I'll get some more practise on the RSV first on a Belgian track :laugh

:cheers

Just a quick up date for anyone who is interested in getting a back protector, well I didn't manage to get a suitable one in time for my trackday on the 22nd so took a chance of riding without one, the weather was crap anyway.

Most people recommended the Knox back protector either the 9 plate ricochet or 9 plate contour as these are designed for people with long backs. I went to the Bike show at the NEC on Sunday and paid a visit to the Knox stand. The lady was extremely helpful and explained all about the different models and CE levels before measuring my back. The most comfortable one for me was the contour which is also the highest CE level and price.

However as it was the last day of the bike show they reduced the price from £99.00 down to £70.75, a real bargain:biggrin. Glad I went to the bikeshow and now I'm fully kitted out for my 2008 trackdays:biggrin.

Would deffo recommend the Knox Back protectors, top quality and good price and also a good fit if you're a lanky streak of P*** like me.

Bring on the RSVZone trackday thats what I say.:thumbup

Congrats, you made a good choice imho ! :thumbup
Even better with a discount of course, lucky you ! :laugh

Pumpkin, don't ask, don't get!

rsvChris, I use an 8 plate Knox, being 6 foot. Haven't done any track days or thankfully tested it in any way but very happy with it. I have to squirm around in the leathers when they first go on to get the protector in the right place but then I forget it's there!
