Back on the bike again!

Hi everyone. It's been a long time since I have been on here. Hope you are all well!

Basically I have not been able to ride my bike because I had a head on with a pizza delivery driver last year, his fault entirely! But all is settled now and I managed to keep my bike to.

Just a few bits I need left to be answered.

I'm replacing the right side rad and coolant hoses/connections back up but can't remember what coolant I had in her before the off so just need to know firstly which coolant is best to go in? Will a premix be good? Secondly what process do I use to "burp" the rads?

Glad to hear you're doing well Kris, best of luck getting your Tuono back in running condition. My owners manual recommends a 50/50 mix with Ecoblu 40 C or AGIP COOL.

Aprilia state using 'nitrite free' coolant, but I've heard it said all modern antifreeze's are nitrite free these days.
- Nitrite can react with minerals in UK water.

Some manufacturers also recommend 'silicate free' as it can cause problems with the water pump (apparently).

Mix is 50/50.

I used 5yr OATs pre-mixed Ethylene Glycol (typically pink), which simply means a longer interval compared to 2 or 3yr (typically blue I think) spec'ed coolant.

If you don't use pre-mixed coolant you should use distilled water to stop corrosion of copper/brass internal parts.

50/50 mix protects down to -37Â°C, which is more than enough for most countries!

Anything much above 50% anti-freeze will be less effective at cooling the engine.

If you haven't already put the coolant in, you could always have a look at the waterless coolant, It runs alot cooler than normal and has a enormous lifetime

Thanks for the advice! Yea I like the sound of the waterless stuff might look into getting some I get round to doing it!

Hi Gav,

What temps does it run at normal riding speed?
My Gen1 runs at 72 to 76C... much less might mean engine efficiency drops of because engine is not hot enough.

Appreciated that running low speed in 1st and 2nd gear is a different story, and a cooler running coolant would help...
