Back Brake???

I have only had my '07' T for a week and have had a few minor issues which I'm sorting out, does anyone have problems with the back brake? I have stripped and cleaned it and the pads have plenty meat on them but the brake is as much use as a chocolate watch, would new fluid help sort it out??? Any ideas or mods to cure would be greatly appreciated!:confused

try kzmille's brake bleed technique....if it works for you (usually the pedal goes soft after about 150miles) then job done.

if not, hang a heavy weight on the pedal overnight (a 5ltr tin of paint is ideal) but the pedal will still go soft after about 150miles.

when you've finally given up (as most do) you will either:
a) just put up with a **** rear brake
or
b) fit some rearsts that relocate the m/c off the enging as per s1imster's post.

fwiw....don't arse about like I did for 3 years trying to get it sorted, if you are one of the unlucky 60% that suffer 'dead brake' just bite the bullet and buy the rearsets.

A know this is going to sound a big bit stupid but ma back brake wiz effin useless and a mean feckin useless, it wouldn't hold yer on a gentle incline.
A've done the advised bleed it method and hung a weight on it etc all to no avail.
Ma mucker who had the same problem on his Duc Fechter said jist keep usein it even though it's utter ****, so a did and have been for 3.5k miles.
Now it's workin to a certain point, not much feel but it's there and if yer press hard enough it'll lock up, am not sayin it's ideal but it's there.
Give it a try, you've got nowt to lose wae this method.

Thanks folks, will have a go at the methods you suggest and hopefully get it resolved, unfortunately funds won't allow the purchase of rear sets so will need to get it working would hate to sell the bike because I can't get a back brake to work!

Im with the aldo method mine dident work
But I wasent to botherd about it
And just through habbit kept using it now I can
Lock the back up if I wanted to.

I thought a back brake was an optional extra on Tuonos. Mine didn't come with one though, one plus point is that learn to corner faster without it

Mine dosent work either, but what the fook i only use the front anyway, do you realy need a back brake if you aint a GP god

errrrr ....

Actually, if I'd had one I'd have given it a good shot on the last 10 yards of tarmac / pre ditch!

I felt the same way, and put up with the piece of **** rear brake for three years.
I then thought **** it, and shelled out on some gilles.
Absolute revelation, money well spent imho. Hairpins, tight u turns, town riding, and just scrubbing a few mph off when you're going into a turn too hot...100% better/easier.

Does that mean ...... no back brake=better vision or no **** on the road.

Am sorry yer said that mucker.

If less control means more haste then just cover yer eyes wae yer hands and yer'll get the Best of both Worlds

I must be one of the lucky ones,So far Iv`e put 1200 miles on the clock since bleeding the rear using` kzmille's method`and its rock solid :dunno, had the MOT yesterday and the tester said it was the first time he`d had an ape with a decent back brake !!!!! :thumbup

My weak back brake was not caused by air or bad fluid.I bled it per kzmilles instructions with motuls finest brake fluid.Got some air out and the brake was rock hard, yet dragging my shoe to the asphalt had more braking power than the rear brake. Finally dragged the rear brake intermittenly to heat it up to burn of grease&residues, and also seat the pads.
After the rotor had heated up to red hot I let it cool down and voila,a functioning rear brake.

I might try some sintered pads in the future, just incase I wanna wheelie against the brake. The stock rear brake is one of the smallest ever fitted on motorcycles,so it will still be weak even at its best compared to some other bikes.

just outa curiosity is it possible to fit a larger disc and move the caliper to a better position ? surely it cant be that hard ? (yes i know the master cylinder is in a poor position)

The disc is plenty big enough, it's more than capable of locking the wheel up, providing of course the m/c is doing it's job.
