Back Brake - Replaced parts and still not working

Don't know where to start with this post...

I've a Gen 2 RSV which had a back brake that would not work. The system was taking in air and couldn't be bled.

I repalced the rear brake caliper along with the rear brake cylinder and reservoir - The system was flushed for air but for some reason it is still working

When I pump the back brake the pedal builds up pressure but does not apply the back brake.

Where to next guys?

As my rear brake is somewhat of a work in progress may I ask:
How much new fluid did you pull through?
Have you tried a reverse bleed?
Have you tried pumping the pedal hard before opening the bleed nipple?
Are you tapping the MC and calliper to promote air bubbles to rise to the top?

All things I have been through to get mine to its current level of brake. Having to pump to get pressure means there is air still in there.

You know what?

This is about the millionth thread I've read where some poor ****** is struggling to get a decent pedal.
Relocate the master vertically and you'll get a decent pedal immediately without all this ****.
With a 100% success rate.

Anyone care to explain why?

Most problems can be solved by throwing money at them. In this case a £300+ set of rear sets.
In my case, I haven't ruled it out yet but I want to see if I can get the manufacturer fitted brake working before I give up. Reason being is that there are owners who have perfectly serviceable rear brakes.
You understand this right?

......but I want to see if I can get the manufacturer fitted brake working before I give up.

Trying to work out why only some bikes are affected and how to get that perfect pedal is a bit like trying to find the Higgs Bosun particle.
I came to the conclusion that a pair of rearsets are somewhat cheaper than a Hadron Collider.

Ok I seen a million and one threads on rear brakes on rsvr and milles and people trying 101 different methods to bleed them to get them working but I have got to ask the question..... Are you really bothered that your back brake works 100% perfect? I just ask because I never use mine well except for hill starts so it don't really worry too much.

If I'm 100% honest not really. It's just a personal mission because I think if its fitted then it should work.
Also to avoid the little pre MOT dance I have to do the night before.

I have to eat my words now be a use after reading this thread I thought I might as well have a go at mine, I used the bleeding guide and now it works spot on. Not that I use it much but as you said if its on the bike it might as well work as well as possible.

Ha ha well at least you've solved your problem!
I've got mine so that the pressure level as it is is now holding. I can hold the bike on a hill.
I now need to get the pedal travel down to about 2 inches max then I will be happy.
I just don't wanna give up.

...and now it works spot on

Fingers crossed fella that it'll still be working after a few hundred miles.

There are loads that say the back brake isn't of importance, tbh I don't use my rear very much either, but it's nice to have.
Trailing the rear mid corner with the front (when you've overcooked it) helps stop the front from diving and screwing up your line.
Good for slow speed control during u turns, especially when you're on a loose surface. Useful in slow moving traffic, filtering and stuff.
Accident investigators would probs not be impressed if they were sorting out a nasty and found your rear brake non-existent.
Saves ******* around at mot time, also what's the point of carrying around 2-3kg of braking equipment on yer p&j if it doesn't work?
There's probs loads more, but at the end of the day, I guess it's down to personal choice

Tifa just looked on the tuono forum you said some footrest off a v4 went on to a gen 2 to move the master cylinder would they fit a rsv gen1. I've got a r/h footrest off a falco and it lines up just need the l/h 1 so i can get on with this mod of moving the master cylinder

Sorry mate, they definately WILL NOT fit the earlier GenI frame.
To fit the v4 footrests, you're looking at about 2005 onwards for the RSVR and 2006 for the GenII Tuono?
The spacing is wrong for them to fit the earlier bikes.
Not sure about the falco spacing though....sorry.

The falco spacing look the same i've put the footrest bracket on i just need a l/h one so they match up. The brake lever and gear change lever work off the footrest bracket
:)

This intreagues me, I'd love a crack at one of your bikes 'cos I can bleed mine up in about five mins and it works flawlessly for a year each time.
