Me and my mate will be riding to Assen for the MotoGP. :thumbup I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to make the mosst of our time there. We are staying in Groningen which is meant to be great for nightlife and such. I also heard rumours of a massive party in the streets of Assen Friday before the race on Saturday.

Anyone got any experience?

Cheers

Yep, went there 2 years ago with Sharky....The Friday night in Assen has to be seen to be believed....It's a massive carnival with loads of stages with bands playing and general mayhem. One word of advice though, if you're on your bike going into Assen, don't drink as they have hordes of coppers with breathalisers at checkpoints in & out of the town, with mobile Police stations set up by the road. The strangest (but coolest) bit is that everyone gets their deckchairs/barbeques out on the Saturday afternoon to wave at the bikes leaving the circuit...and I mean everyone; kids through to geriatrics - and the more noise the better as far as they're concerned.....Have an excellent time. BUT don't do what we did, set off home at 4am attempting to get on the earlier ferry at Calais....warp speed through Holland, Belgium and France doesn't do your neck muscles any favours!

yep been once or twice watch your self for the coppers all to happy to nik the speeder:devious and take a big lock sleep with your bike if you have to
but apart from that it's wicked you'll have a blast and what NEWBOOTS says the ride out is unforgettable :doug
might be there myself yet:doug

Like I said, we're staying in Groningen so will likely get train to the track, so alcohol level not an issue. Dont need to leave till Monday either so plenty of rest and relaxation!

Looking forward to seeing and hearing thousands of bikes at the track. Should be good.

It's a top weekend Coopstar. I've done the trip many times and is excellent. I've always stayed in Groningen at the Hotel Groningen. There's a top place in the town square which is the largest pub in Europe i believe. It has 16 bars over 4 floors and is open until the early hours. A drink in each bar is the challenge. The train is an excellent way to get to the circuit, about 20 minutes away. There's a bus that links Assen train station to the circuit too. Njoy
