Ask for advice on Tuono R

I am seriously considering the purchase of an '08 Tuono R. I have ridden the beast and was very impressed. My current ride is a BMW R1150RSA. As tried to explain to my wife the BMW is vanilla ice cream compared to the Tuono's banana split with jamoca almond fudge. :thumbup
My dilema is I can't keep both, well I could but the wife would go :rolleyes. So, I want to get a bike with the power and versatility of what I might call a super sport tourer. Yet, the Tuono is so appealing I am drawn to it. Is it capable of being comfortable for medium range trips? Say, 300 miles R/T. I don't mean to take it across country with gear and bags. As a comparison, I am also considering the BMW K series, and the Yamaha FJR. I have ridden alll of these and cannot decide which I like the most. HELP!:rolleyes

Yup. no problemo at all... lots of us tour on the T... ya have to be a bit creative with luggage owing to the Plastic tank. I've been over to France a couple of times this year doing 350 miles in a day with ease... the only addition being a taller screenwhich i shall be hopefully trying out at the end of the month when i go abroad again.

Don't worry....

And follow your hart.
I took the T for several holidays since 2006, even twice for 14 days to Italy.
Ans many weekend trips with a lot of fun.:cheers

But...it's your money.

what portion of your riding is long trips, and portion is out to go have fun around town?

Bonzer to our knowledge through various sites we are yet to find anyone who did not love the T after comitting to a purchase...... See if you can hire one for a couple of days if needed.
I considerred the BMW K1200R naked beast but opted for the T..... the beemer has no sole or charisma like the big T does....
Its your moola but as i said try to find a bad point on the T....... i ride often with the Mrs on the back and do 3 or 4 hundred klms in a day easy... cheers & good luck Towie

I'd say 70% of my riding has been less than 50-75 miles R/T. Mostly down the coast to San Diego. On occasion a day trip to the local mountains, about 120 miles R/T. The more I think about it the more the T appeals to me.
Cost is not a factor either as all the bikes I am considering are in the same range given what the dealers want to sell them for. In fact I have yet to talk price with the Aprillia sales person. Although I know him personally and expect a decent price.

I too liked the R and still do. It is raw power in a manageable, linear motor. But very different from the T. I must admit the Tuono is the sexiest bike I have ridden.
Thanks for the feedback.

Yeh its like all on its own out there nothing like it..... but how about that comfort and ohhhh that suspension on the K1200R **** i loved it but hey everything is a compromise.. love the one your with... good luck

Tuono will tour or scratch, but they aren't the best pillion bike if that's a factor.

Luggage, Baglux (Bagster) tank bag & Ventura tail packs are the best IMHO.

Buy the Tuono - it will be more FUN!

Thanks V60Paul,
Two up is not a factor since my wife went with me one day. She freaked out when I leaned into a turn at moderate speed. I think it may have been more that she was not in control. Oh well, more fun for me!
Looks more and more like the Tuono is my next bike.

I have thought about that. Only she's as sexy as the T. I haven't figured out which of the two would be more expensive to service. If she asks me what I need another M/C for, I'll say, "For the same reason you need another pair of shoes".
Thanks,
Bonzer

I'll try to remember this one....:cheers

BTW, I have the Oxford Tailpack Deluxe and it's great to use and the quality is very good.

Hi M8, just about to get first service, can't wait and at running in revs didn't have a problem staying in touch! I'm a CONVERT! It's thirsty with a crap turning circle BUT the thing talks to you, handles great, brakes make your eyeballs bleed and even running in seems to have bags of stomp! DON'T GROW UP, HAVE FUN _ HAVE A TUONO! signed (nearly 60 years old) WACKER

Wacker, you made my day. I'm 63 and a retired law enforcement official in California. I decided long ago that I'm not going to die +/- 5 yrs. post retirement. Which is the average for retired coppers. So I still surf, ski, play tennis and ride the Beemer. That may soon change to, "ride the Tuono". :cheers

All good news Wacker..... i have a vetura bag system... takes large bag or change to a grab rail... doesn't look great though and way to difficult to take frame on and off ..... my mrs doesn't give a **** what i do when shes on the back & shes only about 60kg so i pretend shes not even there & she does encourage me to be bad.... hardly notice a difference whether shes with me or not to be honest & we can ride around all day no probs with comfort but i have the 05 Generation and the pillion seat is much much more comfy than newer models... cheers Towie

Anyone use the Bagster saddle bags for their tuono? I'm wondering if having the weight lower might help the handling, but haven't dropped any coin on a system yet.

Also, Hows it work with the pipe?

No Bagster but I'm very satisfied with the Oxford Deluxe Tailpack and no issues with the exhaust pipes nor the handling in corners.

I use the small Hein Gerick saddle bags, they are bloody excellent and give good clearance on the pipes as well as being good quality, theres a pic on one the threads .I have just got back from a trip to France, where despite being suffed to the limit they never moved at all. And to be honest i forgot they was there, till i tried to hang off on a bend!

Get that new pair of (Thunder!) shoes yet? :drool
