Newbie advice needed for the 2014.

Is that bike a viable all-arounder?
Does it work as a commuter?
Is the tall first gear a pain in traffic?
Does the bike have all-day comfort?
Is the lack of steering lock a nagging hindrance?
Should I just shut up and buy one?

I don't want a flying couch. I don't want an adventure bike or a 4-cylinder sport tourer. I love naked bikes. I love hauling *** on secondary roads. I rode and was impressed with the V2 Tuono. I salivate over every word that is written about the V4. I have local friends who can help me overcome my lack of local dealer support.

Should the V4 be my choice for what would have to be my 1-bike garage?

I'd probably install a Ventura luggage rack on my V4, which indicates my preference for touring over track days.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

PS: Someone please open an Aprilia dealership here in Raleigh! My closest dealer is 2.5 hours away.

PPS: My alternate choice of new ride: Ducati Monster 1200 S or Triumph Speed Triple.

PPPS: I am 5'9" with a 30" inseam.

Hello Ken
Just picked my 14 plate T4 last Friday and its the Mutts Nuts. The 3 modes give 3 totally different bikes. It looks awesome in the flesh, needs total concentration in Track mode and makes you laugh EVERYTIME you swing your leg over it. For me a litre should be crazy and this is, making my 08 Blade look pedestrian. The only downside I can think of is its hard work clinging on over 120, but even that is hilarious. Buy one mate, there is nothing on the market like it. One word of warning, it will turn you into a grinning *****. Good luck mate

just change the gearing if you don't like the tall gears, changed front tooth on my V2 and totally different bike to ride. No more sliding clutch in traffic.

just shut up and buy one :thumbup ,

change the gearing to 15/40 and it will be good for round town and still good for 150+

the lack of steering lock has never been a prob for me .

I,m 5'10'' with a 30'' leg and the v2 2nd gen fits like a glove .

you may want to change the levers for asv,s or similar to give more adjustability/ comfort

last summer I did a 200mile trip with a couple of fuel stops and a couple of call of nature stops when I got off I felt pretty good , but a gel seat would be a good idea !!

best bike ive had covers all bases for me and still makes me grin like a loon even after 18 months of owner ship !!:burnout

Great stuff guys. Thanks for the info, particularly the gearing. It's great to know that there's an awesome forum for the T4! I'll post pics of mine when I can get# my hands on one!

There are three things that I changed on my TV4 straight away.

1, fitted an Aprillia touring screen. Much more comfortable at speed now.
2, Changed to 15 tooth front sprocket
3, Fitted adjustable levers. The stock brake lever is adjustable, but for some reason the clutch lever isn't.

These all added to the ride-ability in a positive way.
