Well went to start the ape this morning and when I hit the button it was `lazy` turning over but fired up.Went to a garage for liquid gold about a mile from home and the ******* refused to turn over let alone start, just getting a clicking from under the seat hump area.First thought is starter solenoid/relay.Cannot check battery volts as my multi meter is ******(got dropped from a great height :crazy),but battery was on optimate last night and shows good on that, I`ve checked the earth on the side of the engine and that was clean and tight.Any other possibilities ?.Oh and where the hell is the starter solenoid situated,

Thanks in advance

I have mine on the optimate all the time to make sure the battery is kept in good condition. If you only put it on over night, it may have discharged too far and not been able to fully charge. Just a thought

Sorry grin, I did`nt explain myself vey well,I keep it on an optimate for 3/4 days a week and has always started well.just this morning it died and rather than pay out for a battery straight off(maybe needlessly) first I thought I`d pick the collective brains here, the lying meter on the bike says that the battery has 14.1-14.4 when running and shows 12.4 ish befor I hit the start button then drops rapidly down to 8v !!!!!! while `clicking noise occurs.hope Iv`e explained better this time :thumbup

Are the battery connections tight? If so could be the battery is past its best.
You've checked the other obvious things, unless someone else has better knowledge.
Fingers crossed for you mate

new battery required i believe.....

happened to me on my last bike - fired up on the drive first prod as normal, went for juice and dead as a dodo when i went to restart it......

i too have it conected to a conditioner / charger...... alas battery's dont last forever.

Well tried a decent battery on the tuono and she fired straight up :banana,Now the $64 question, what is the best battery ? I`m looking at Yuasa ytx12-bs(150mmx87mmx130mm) or Yuasa ytx14-bs(152mmx88mmx147mm)I included dimensions as I expect someone on here will know if there is enough space in the battery box for the larger battery(save me going into the garage to measure, lazy ******* me ,I`m afraid:thumbup, or will I need to do some modifications to the box,or can anyone recommend a better battery ?

Thanks for the replies lads

YTX14 fits no probs. but ye won,t be able tae fit the retaining clamp back on as the bolt holes will be half cover as the new batts a bit taller. its pretty well held in tho an the seat sit on top o it so its nae going any where.

Ah cut oot a bit o dense foam and stuck it in the gap where the clamp wid go so when the seats back on it compressed doon nice and tight. Sorted!
