Hello V4 brotherhood,

need some info /best practices on the subject mentioned Race ECU. Reason why I got the new ECU in the first place is to get better fuelling for my new GPR Thunderslash.

Beyond the fact that the local dealer isn't keen on installing my independently sourced official Aprilia Race ECU, I'm also being told that this ECU is crash prone, can't be fixed, needs special programming and may hamper the bikes road going ability (blinkers and other stuff not being supported because a Race ECU is targeted at the track...).

Personally, none of the forum entries I found support these concerns, but i'd rather ask than be sorry. Appreciate any inputs before I go installing this thing myself. Speaking of which: anybody running the Guzzi Diag on a Mac?

I can't insert the link, but I've read a forum thread somewhere, that someone crashed their bike because of the race ecu. He said it felt like it was cycling through max and min throttle in very fast sequences, and he ended up lowsiding his bike... :(

I tried and tried but couldn't get it to work on my Mac. If you install parallels and run Windows it works fine. If however you do find out how to run it on IOS then please let me know.

Yup, exactly my problem. Find the file, open it on MAC and it crashes.... will have to sort this via a PC then...

I still can't believe the Race ECU will negatively affect the bike: it alters fuelling and gives full power mode, but it shouldn't affect any of the other standard electronics. Has anybody had stability issues with the Race ECU?

The crash whatever happened was not caused by a race ecu.

The race ecu adjusts fuelling AFR. Nothing more and would not cause the issues that are mentioned.

OP

You have been told a lot of ***** by a dealer that clearly doesn't know what he is talking about.

The best advice I can give is to put the Thunderslash in the bin and fit a decent exhaust.

Something that short and open is NO good for fuelling on the V4.

Just to add to what Rizla said, the race ecu wouldn't have caused the crash.
There hasn't been a reported case of unwanted acceleration from an aprilia demand sensor (fly by wire) due to the number of fail safes in the sensor.

The race is ecu is the same hardware as the stock ecu running the same map as the official akra map, installation is quick, you have to plug it in to activate the quickshifter and aprc if fitted and go through throttle self learning.

So here's the latest:

After about 25km I had no major fueling issues. Nonetheless, I will go for the Race ECU (has arrived, but will ship to Gabro next week for some fairy dust).

The Lonelec cables should arrive within the next couple of days and I've found a guy that has a laptop and can run the GuzziDiag.

Rizla had a good point and that's something I rarely pick up in the exhaust threads: the V4 don't like short and very open cans (lack of backpressure) and the Thunderslash is likely right at the extreme in that category. I'll get the bike on a dyno and if really there is a significant loss of power or she runs lean, I'll put the longer Akra back on.

Thanks to all for the responses!
