An Aprilia SXV 5.5 piloted by Davey Durelle has won outright the 2008 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Durelle, competing in the 750cc class, beat rivals on such machinery as Aprilia's own 750cc Dorsoduro and the 1100cc Ducati Hypermotard (which won the 1200cc class).

Davey completed the 12.4 mile, 156 corner course that climbs 4,720 feet to the mountains summit in 11mins, 42secs. Above is a helmet cam video of the race filmed by Davey's rival, Jeff Grace. You can see Davey pass Jeff just 14 seconds into the clip.

Its a fun place, I rode the course a couple weeks ago. Sadly they have rangers and speedlimits when the race isn't in session. Its pretty wide and fast but of course with some tight turns. Even I would hit 100+mph on the dirt straights I think. The dirt section is really hard packed clay and quite wide - very much like a flat track surface. I was sorta surprised no one was running a high powered tracker with brakes. I can totally see how the competition class supermotos would post the fastest times, getting them slowed down and turned on the dirt surface would be so much easier than the big bikes that are over 100lbs heavier and on hardpacked dirt it would be hard for the big bikes to make use of their hp advantage as I imagine they'd just spin up.

If I were racing there and had my choice of bike I'd snag a 'berg. Similar hp as the priller but easier to find traction due to being a single.
