Hi i have a cored exhausts and want to change the map on my Aprilia but after speaking with service in Kettering and Peterborough it seams that I would have to wait minimum 2 weeks to do that at the dealer and it costs 50 pounds do You know any place where i can do it at earlier date and also is it not better to add some money to this 50 quid and try to put a custom map for the bike.If Yes then where is the good place to do that ?

Try BSD motorcycle developments in eye nr Peterborough. Speak to mark brewin. Best dyno in the area

You need a power commander for custom map

Only map 2 available via a dealer

Try griff at aprilia performance ,tamworth if you want it sooner

Concur with that..Mark did a massive amount with the development of my phaseone endurance racer in 2002..
When I took it back to him a couple of years ago for a tuned GSXR shoot out magazine article, he instantly found an extra few horses with minimal tweeting! :)

Glad your pleased with the pipes fella! :)

They said that its not a problem to switch to map 2 but with my 04 RSVR on Cored exhausts it wont do anything.I dont want to spend 60 pounds for nothing. He had a client with the same cored exhausts and it was impossible to improve how the bike was running with the cored exhausts. It seams i must buy some aftermarket ones and then change the map :/

Depending on how the coring was done, many Gen2's fuel poorly on cored cans due to back pressure issues (lack of). That is why Griff at AP would have given you a cautionary note on sticking with them.

Generally Rsv's don't like short or very open cans fueling wise.

So what should I do buy some aftermarket exhausts with baffles ? What if for example You buy an akra cans and take out baffles You will have the same pressure issues even on map 2 ?

That won't be a problem on a good brand aftermarket can as they will have done the R&D to make sure they fuel fine either way. The back pressure will be a combination of core size/type and can length which is why you can't go too wide or too short.

Most cored cans run wider/open cores than the average aftermarket version but depends on what was used to replace the original cores as to how well they work. I'm sure people could and have built suitable cored cans having taken those parameters into consideration but if they are very loud there is a good chance they are very open.

They are very loud wich is nice it makes me smile but if the bike is less powerful than normal then i will have to buy an aftermarket ones.Thank You for your help.

They dont need any baffling or backpressure, they have run perfectly on my bike for the last 18 months!!

Dont be mad Andy Im not saying that the exhausts are bad or nor is anyone else here but the guy from Aprilia service said that he had a client yesterday with a cored exhausts and after switching to map 2 there was little change in fueling. He said that RSVs from 06 and up doesnt have such problems with fueling just 04 and 05 and mine is 04.I will still change the map to 2 and then I will let You all know if it changed anything on my Aprilia.

The problem with the fueling is that it can only be adjusted via bypass screws on the throttle bodies on the Gen2. That will only allow a fairly small window of adjustment to the low throttle fueling. Some cored cans make it almost impossible to get the setup within that window as they make the bike run lean (as it would be on map1).

The bike will otherwise be fairly normal and probably make decent power but the low speed fueling is where the problem area will be. Only a Pc3 etc will properly dial that out. I beleive the later Gen2 has more adjustments in the ecu accessable with the axone re setup which were locked out in the 04/05 bikes.

Interesting...Are those low speed fueling problems only noticable via dyno runs or actually noticable via 'seat of the pants' riding via rough/jerky etc performance?

Don't know about dyno runs as never been involved with a cored bike on a dyno but i have setup a fair few Gen2 with a gas analyser and 1 of those was cored so i saw the difference. Basically on variant 2 (open loop) or map 2 as some call it they generally fuel at about 3.5 to 4% at idle when you set them up.
That low speed fueling carries through to about 1/4 throttle or 3-4k revs i would guess. Above that it's purely down to the map programming and only changed by a Pc3 etc.

On the one bike i did that was cored, balance wasn't an issue but the gas reading looked like the bike was on varaint 1 still (somewhere around 1.5 -2%). So much so i sent the guy to get it checked as to what variant it was running (it was on variant 2). He had wanted it checked as the bike was a bit snatchy and he had lots of popping on the overun (often a sign of a lean mixture) and it ran quite warm in traffic compared to similar bikes. Having balanced the Tb's it was a little better but we couldn't do anything to alter the fueling, just balance it.

For those with an axone to look at the ecu, they will see that there are options that you can't enter (password) and those include CO trimming for each cylinder, idle speed etc. I think those are unlocked at least in part on later incarnations of the ecu so it would be possible to adjust further than on the 04/05.

I guess it depends a lot on the core type etc as to how much it effects individual bikes. I would still run variant 2 anyway on a cored can regardless because it disables the Lambda which can only be a good thing if the bike is a bit lean anyway. That is the only difference between variant 1 and 2 is the Lambda, there is only 1 map in the ecu.
The £60 ish you pay for the switch is to change the variant and re balance the Tb's, nothing else can be done without a pc3 etc even with a dyno. I don't know of anyone that can alter the oem map in a Gen2

I will book change the map next month and tell You of any changes.Yes the bike does pop a lot when i get of the throttle and its lovely :)

Now that's a quality post!
.Thanks for the insight.

Gabro over on af1 has broken into the ecu at last he can reflash it but he is based in Italy so that sort of kills the idea
