Aprilia crash bungs or aftermarket?

HI,

Guys finally going to get some crash bungs and not sure if it's worth getting the Aprilia white one or aftermarket ones? which would perform better in a lay down?

Cheers

I got some * & * ones and the kit duly arrived with a part missing, four weeks and sweet FA from them, e-mails and phone calls = nothing.
They don't fit the frame either! Excellent quality though!

Arent there the stands on your Ape already? Mine did so I used skateboard wheels and 10mm bolts with stainless tubing as a bushing.

Come on man,...say what you really think!:lol
:) I thought I did.

the Aprilia ones are welded and the welds give - even if the bike topples off it's stand. One the Gen 1 they fold back into the oil tank and cut the sight tube, meaning you can't ride home. The aren't worth their weight in scrap.

Hmm,maybe I should get some Woodcraft then. Suppose my skate wheels will work fer now............Thanks Bat.

seem ok to me WileeC ..... I `ve always thought thats what they were anyway

Polypenko is what it is so if you have a lathe then you can turn your own

I fitted R&G to the frame. They were a bit fiddly & needed some of the black plastic removing from the side fairing things.
I was not too happy about the wiring harness getting squashed a bit when fitting them, but if bigger spacers are used it causes other alignment issues.
They seem well engineered & sturdy, but I have read on some reports that they can do more damage to the frame in a spill as compared to surface damage from a slide without them.
I suppose it all depends on the things the bike hits & the speed its going when it hits them.
I suppose its obvious, but they all will perform well on the track, but its kerbs, cars, lampost etc that cause the damage.

Lamposts wont be a problem in Leicestershire soon, bloody council are turning all the street lights of, so they may as well take em down whilst they are at it.

Thanks H, I thought that too. The only thing that makes me think is the statement about the stockers folding over. But, if i do go down, it wont be pretty anyway. just some extra insurance I think. If it does fall off the stand, thats my fault for not propping it up correctly. Its a cheap alternative to the Ape parts and I got to mess abit with the bike. Tinkering does the job when the weather is ****.

My R&* parts didn't fit onto the frame properly and I wasn't prepared to remove metal from the frame or the crash bung mounting to facilitate fitting,
so reluctantly they were sent back, the original parts have now been beefed up with additional bracing and some replacement nylon parts are being made by a small company in Brum that my employer uses, will post a photo when completed.
