Aprilia Caponord ADD System Explained
An All-New Active Suspension System Revolutionizing Motorcycle Technology

ADD (Aprilia Dynamic Damping) is an all-new dynamic semi-active suspension control system developed and patented by Aprilia, which sets new global benchmarks for the motorcycle industry in terms of technology, efficacy and reliability. The exclusive software uses skyhook algorithms and acceleration driven damping strategies, which are the industry standards for the automotive world. This has made it possible, for the first time ever, to attain superlative levels of performance in all fork and shock absorber frequency ranges. With previous generation electromechanically adjusted suspension systems, the rider electrically adjusted the suspension setup from a selector on the handlebar. With the Aprilia ADD system, however, all the rider has to do is ride. The system measures the forces transmitted to the vehicle from irregularities in the road surface, recognises the dynamic state of the vehicle (acceleration, wide-open-throttle, braking or cruising) and adapts the suspension setup accordingly in real time to maximise comfort and maintain vehicle stability.

After APRC, the highly sophisticated suite of electronic control systems equipping the RSV4 and Tuono V4, Aprilia once again proves its role as a pioneer in the development of avant-garde electronic systems for motorcycle applications. In addition to the all-new ADD system, the bike's suite of electronic solutions also contributes significantly to striking the perfect balance between riding pleasure and performance.

Aprilia was the first to believe in the potential of Ride by Way electronic throttle control to maximise performance, and introduced this highly sophisticated technology - which had previously been the sole preserve of racing bikes - on the Shiver 750 back in 2007. On the Caponord 1200, the efficacy and reliability of this system have been taken to new heights. The Ride by Wire system dialogues continuously with the electronic engine management system to optimise power delivery throughout the entire engine range, ensuring smooth, judder-free power delivery at low engine speeds, instantaneous response at mid engine speeds and an impressive eagerness to keep on revving all the way to the red line.

Both ABS and ATC come as standard, and can be deactivated by the rider.

The two-channel ABS system has been fine-tuned to take full advantage of the dynamic qualities of the bike when riding hard without feeling invasive even under intense braking, yet still ensure unparalleled safety in slippery road conditions.

ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) is an exclusive traction control system derived from the extraordinary Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC) system. It has been developed and perfected to ensure maximum grip in all road conditions, for outstanding safety and peace of mind. Three different control levels are selectable to suit different riding styles and road conditions.

The three different engine maps, selectable even while riding, let the rider choose between three very different personalities for the Caponord 1200. All the rider has to do is close the throttle, press the relative button and choose the preferred configuration:

  • SPORT, for spirited riding, with ready, direct power delivery.
  • TOURING, with smoother power delivery for daily riding or touring, but with all the horsepower as the Sport map.
  • RAIN, for total control and safety in poor grip conditions, with power reined in to 100 hp.
