Ok so not mine. But two mates having bike trouble, thought Id see if you guys have any suggestions.

So problem 1)
Mate taking a (heavy)pillion hit a speed hump on his nc30.

The impact disconnected his exhaust from the downpipes, after it he stopped there was no neutral light and it wouldnt turn over.

When we took off all the fairings we eventually noticed there was a block connector disconnected (think it was maybe 3/4 pin brown one? On the left hand side of the engine near the front)
After we reconnected this the bike would crank over but only with the clutch in, but would not fire.....

We`v been looking for the neutral switch as the neutral light stopped working, and it will only turn over with the clutch pulled in. Thing is does that explain why it doesnt actually fire up once its turning over?? (with clutch pulled in)

Ok problem 2)
My mate got caught in heavy rain on his 749s today head for the bsb brands round.
Caught got in a heavy shower, and its started cutting out, got him abit further then eventually had to push it down the exit. Called RAC who tried to start it but the exhaust was actually filling up with fuel, apparently dripping out the joints! :dowhat
So obviously they gave up on trying to start it again when they couldnt drain all the fuel from the exhaust. I havent looked at it yet. Any ideas what to look for or check??

problem 1,check if it has a side stand switch,if so bridge it,
Problem 2.water in the kill switch?.

Pat - 1) it doesnt have one attached, took the sidestand right off but nothing there.

2) you mean in the switch gear itself?

Nik - Thats a preventative measure. We need solutions ;) Also where abouts in sussex are ya?

You asked this before M8, East Grinstead, we ride the A272 & usually go to Bury hill or Loomies cafe

Re: Problem 2

More than likely the fuel pump relay at the front, most people seal it using a finger from a rubber glove

As mentioned, get the fuel pump relay sealed in the finger of a rubber glove, otherwise it WILL succumb if ridden in the rain. This leaves you stranded. Happily they're only a few quid.

oh really? is it a common problem on those? Where abouts is it? so any sort of bag etc to stop water getting in? will it need replacing or just drying out??

Nik - ah yeh so I did mate. Not been to loomies. Were you at either today per chance??

Yep pretty common. Let it dry out and see if it works, replacements are about £3 or £4 from ducati or you can probably get them any automotive place. It's somewhere down the front behind the battery box

Loads of post on it if you search :thumbup

Badger - thats ok mate. they aint my bikes :devious

Nik - Do you have a whole selection of those avatar gif`s lol.
Ah yes so it did (hence problem 2), I didnt get up til 12 you see, by which time it was sunny :thumbup

Haha, I like it :thumbup

Some ducati dealers change the relays at major services but they do usually throw a code on the dash. The coil stick for the front cylinder can let water in if it isn't sealing well. The seal should have special grease on it to keep it sealed otherwise water can collect in the coil recess. Because the front cylinder is almost horizontal in the frame, the head is in the line of fire of water from the front wheel.

Thank you one and thank you all ( bow)

Spoonz - I`ll have to speak to him mate, he may already bundled into a garage and damn the bill....
