I've just bought a seat hump for the Tuono, it's mint but in the Black "R" clour scheme, need it painted to match the gold n silver/grey of the Tuono??????

Dont fancy doing it your self then buddy?

OOOOhhhhhh......................dunno about that bud, could make a huge "James Hunt" of it to be honest!!!:devious:devious

Could i get the paint easily??? say from an Ape dealer????

In fact F*CK that......i WILL make a roaring "James" of it so not even going to try buddy!!!!!

I have, how do you say, a short temper and ZERO patience!!!!!:rant:rant:rant

G-Waaaan, give it a go!

It's not that 'ard.

Get some P600 wet and dry, rub it down (get the lacker off) and scratch the paint surface. Use a tack cloth (waxy sticky cleaning cloth, removes all the sh**) after each rub down.
Apply primer (shouldn't need more than a can for the hump), leave for and hour or so, wet and dry again and lightly go over the primer again. Give it 24 hours to dry.
Lightly rub over with wet (P800 or P1000 if you can find it) before spaying with your paint.
Rub down the first coat lightly (just enough so that it feels smoov as silk) than apply a second coat. Give it no more than 30 mins, then apply an even coat of lacker, not too thick or it'll run like snot, leave that for about an hour and hit it again with a final coat of lacker.

Go to bed, wake up, job done!
(find a local paint shop if you can, Aprilia charges for paint are disgusting!)
Good luck

That's a cool article.

Wish i'd found that before I did mine!

Good luck Garvey mate - giz a shout if ya need help.

Great advice buddy, cheers..........my only real concern is that i have never painted anything in my life before, and wouldn't know how much to put on, how to evenly spray it on etc, etc........ so would probably try it, f*ck it up, then have to buy more paint and pay someone to do properly anyway!!!!

NOT CONFIDENT BUDDY.................:thumbup

Mate my brother is a sprayer. Done thousands of cars and bike's over the years. He's based in leicester so he's not close for you mate.

I've seen people "try it' themselves in the past and it can get quite messy. And you quite rightly state cost you more in the long run. Plus you never get as good a finish from a can as you can from an air fed spray gun with infra red heaters an all. My adivce if you're not confident or never done it before try on something else first, before you reck your new tuone panel. Anyone can chuck paint on a panel and make it look alright but proper spray painting it on is first class. :inlove

I'll always have my painting done by a professional as i'm that fussy and i'll want it to look first class.:biggrin

I paint too, down in Sussex (check out www.jonscustompaintwork.co.uk). Just in my garage but using pucca guns and a decent air compressor. Much too far away from Scotland but would highly recommend getting it done properly rather than spray cans. There is an art to spraying that you have to learn and practice to avoid a crap job.

Cheers guys, think i'll go down the route of gettin it done properly. Next question is! Where is the best place to try and get some colour matched paint??? I'd like to have the grey/silver and a bit of the gold colour on it and from what i gather dealer prices are ridiculous!!!!!

Depends on what's being painted (ie. size), how detailed a design is needed and what paint effects are wanted.

I resprayed a Yamaha Dragstar fender last week in one solid colour (he paid for the paint) and I charged £40. A guy wants me to paint union jacks and a dragon on each side of his fairing (lots of masking involved then) and I quoted £200.

I'm told that for something like the tank on my website (which I still have) I should charge £500. 4 solid days of work and lots and lots of paint effects and mucho masking.

Mind you - the final effect was well worth it.

im in 2 minds really over mine. Either spend weeks in my garage doing it myself or paying for someone else to do it.
the problem I have is if I do it my self I can get away with buying some sand paper then buying some paint etc. but if someone paints it then its a big chunk in cost straight up anf the missus is not going to have that :(
Might be owrth getting some quotes I guess and see, Maybe a nice christmas pressy to me :)
