As per the title, havn't had her a week yet so not used to her. Had her out for a wash earlier, and when finished, tried to start her up to get rid of some of the water, and the bike is turning over fine - battery seems fine, but it's not catching. Let her a few hours and tried again, still no luck. Battery is getting low now, so have taken the rider seat off, to hopefully help it dry out under there (it's a bit damp in there from the wash - I'm guessing/hoping this is the problem) and will be going to the shop tomorrow morning to get the optimate lead so I can make sure the battery is ok.

Is this likely to be the dampness from washing? If not, where else should I start checking - I'm no master of electrics, so in idiots terms if possible hahaha.

Cheers in advance guys!

Only had mine for a couple of months and during that time I have come across a few quirks . Mine would not start with the choke yesterday but with all the rain etc , its probably got damp and cold bearing in mind mine is kept outside undercover . Its not recommended for long periods but open throttle full to catch it then choke , has worked for me but cant say it works for everyone.

I've had it on the optimate for a few hours - the battery is fine. It's turning the engine over no problems. I've just had the tank off, I pulled out the lower spark plug from the rear cylinder, and turned it over once or twice - no spark, but I saw a flash of blue, maybe it is sparking, but only on one plug. So I took the other plug out, and thats not sparking either. No blue flashes either.

Anyone got any more ideas?

Cheers.

Cancel that, it's sparking fine, I just stupidly forgot to ground the plug to the engine.

So, to update, the engine is turning over fine, the spark plugs are sparking, the battey is ok. The dash needle is stopping at 6,000rpm though, and I can hear a click from what I think is the starter relay.

Snap!! Ive had mine for a month and its a nightmare for starting, i thought it was me as i havent had a twin before but after what ive read it isnt. Basically its turning over fine but wont catch, and after only a few seconds i can smell the fuel . Removed plugs and wet with fuel (flooded), checked for spark and yep they are sparking fine. I have fitted a new battery just incase but still the same. Before anyone says it, NO i am not touching the throttle at all but still floods quickly.
With it being fuel injected and have an ECU surely it should be almost impossible to flood unless theres a problem. Please help!! anyone had the same problem?

There is no choke on the rsv. The lever is a fast idle and makes no difference to the fuel/air mixture at starting. With the lever right back it is the same as holding the throttle a little open.
They all vary but mine always started best with just a little fast idle and hit the starter without going anywhere near the throttle.

Re the washing, there is an atmos sensor in the left air duct. If you swamp the duct with a hose you can submerge the sensor and upset the efi. Put a sock/rag in the duct when hosing it or keep the hose/water from the duct opening. Usually fine again when the water has drained away.

ok chaps..common fault with these bikes..starting..yes they do flood..solution..disconnect the fuel pump connection socket under seat, this is the white four slot connector. turn ignition on and and press starter button with a little throttle to allow excess fuel to burn off..you may get a few back fires!! don't press starter for more than 5 to 6 seconds at a time..once you have cleared all fuel connect fuel pump back up and start bike..should run sweet..

Managed to do this earlier, but thanks for the advice, I thought I was being really clever working it out, now you tell me others have had the same idea, haha!

She finally burst into life in a big cloud of smoke! Can't wait to get out on her again! I found I had no luck with just the cold start lever, but with a bit of throttle, off she went!
