hi there to every 1 i own a 2003 mille came to start it tday and it turns over but makes a grinding noise had the starter checked its fine has any one got an idea its driving me mad ireplaced the starta relay and battery 2 months ago thanks

Could be sprag clutch. Have you checked if your battery is fully charged, if its really low it maybe turning your engine over slowly thus sounding rough. Its really hard to diagnose engine problems without someone being there and listening. Have you had trouble starting before?

Its realy not that hard

You know when the sprag goes puf, and the grinding noise is the way you tell, a very distinct noise :D

it sumtimes starts slugish but eventually goes sumtimes clocks rest to km/h wud that b starter cluth signs to?

Sounds like not enough power to turn over the engine you must keep the battery charged and in tip top condition as a a knackered battery will damage the sprag clutch.

Maybe invest in an optimate to keep charging the battery. If you have damaged the sprag clutch then its extremely expensive with aprilia geniune parts, best thing to do is check your battery is ok and keep it charged. Hope its not the sprag :thumbup

The Sprag clutch is a one-way roller gear on the back of the flywheel. It's a weak point on RSVs and the reason you need to keep the battery and charging system in top condition as repeated labouring of the starter can damage it. Classic symptom is a grinding noise and reluctance to turn over properly.
If you put it into a dealer who uses offcial Aprilia parts then no doubt it won't be cheap to fix. However, there are cheaper (but just as good) alternatives to some of the Aprilia parts and if you have a bit of mechanical knowledge, it's not too big a job to do yourself.
There's loads of info on here about it - just do a search for 'sprag' or let us know if you need any more help.

OH sheet

You need to sit down really M8 and have look at some how tos first as its all gonna get messy.

Do a search on here for sprag clutch replacement.

TBH mate, I can't remember although the end locates in the outer case so may be OK and just wobbling because it's only located one end with the case off. You really need to inspect and measure all the bearing surfaces that the gears spin on with a micrometer to make sure they're OK/in tolerance. Where are you? maybe someone who knows and lives nearby can come and have a look for you.

ive read people replace their starta relay with a yamaha one do u no which yamaha one it is

can anyone tell me wen u r taking fly wheel off do u use a hot air heat gun or a blow tourch to heat it up
