Does anyone know how to wire a cigerette lighter socket or USB power socket into my bike so that i can plug in my Nuvi 205?

Ive only seen it once and he did it direct from the battery with an inline fuse, im no electrician so wouldnt know if this is the right way but i know it worked :dunno

I am a electrician ,, and that is sort of what i did, i changed my opitmate plug on bike for a female cigerette plug , and put a male one on opitmate it`s self, then its just plug and play with only one lead on bike ?? Just a idea, or just have 2 leads but if u do make sure u inline fuse it ...

Good idea!! :thumbup

My Optimate plug wants changing anyway as the internal pins are worn out. Any suggestions where i can get male/female cigerette lighter sockets from?

Ebay u want to get a female one with a waterproof plug on it , so its waterproof when not in use ,, i put mine lose in the tail area. Only thing is remember when u unplug the male end it may still be live from the optimate unit so DONT stick it on the end of your knob,,,LOLOL

Not sure about the knob gags ,but hey whatever works for you:devious

As to the power lead, go to Maplins & get an insulated socket for a lighter plug for £2 or so, solder about a foot of twin core wire to it and fit to battery terminals using a 2 amps in line fuse.

I cable tied the socket to the tubular subframe running side to side at the front under the pilllion seat.

I have the GPS power lead with the transformer plug running from the instrument panel along the frame to the rear seat area where the plug is cable tied to the l/h side of the crossmember, when you need power to the lead just remove rear cowl and connect the plug to socket.

Easiest way to do it, plus you have a power socket enabled for phone charger or WHY. Could even use it for a charger I suppose.

Here's some pics (hopefully) of my install.
