Akrapovics.......

Okay, quick question:

I have a standard `04 RSVR, and I am currently debating (with myself :biggrin) on which cans to replace my standards with.

So, would I be able to stick on a set of (second hand) Akrapovics and then run the bike as it is, ie; with the stock ECU, or would it need re-mapping so as not to run like a pig ?

Also, would it make a difference, again with the map, if you run with the baffles in, or out, or are the baffles purely a noise-thing, and nothing else.

Apologies in advance for the numpty question, but I`ve just returned to biking after a 5 year break (enforced), and the last time I owned a bike, it was all about re-jetting, as opposed to re-mapping, at the time............!

If you fit a pair of aftermarket cans, i.e in your case akrapovic then you will need an Aprilia dealer to activate what is called MAP2 held within the bike's ecu. This is the open loop MAP for bikes that run race cans i.e they have no catalytic convertors fitted. This will give you a noticeable improvement in performance. The dealer will also need to adjust the throttle boddies by resetting the CO2 levels using an exhaust gas anylizer. This will stop any low speed running problems and stalling issues. Also ask the dealer download into the bike's ECU the latest version of MAP2

Legs: Fantastic info there mate; thankyou very much, and just what I needed to know ! :thumbup

Wish id asked that question last year!! being running my 05 with Akroprovics SP,s (baffels removed). I asked the dealer who i bought them from if i needed to change the ECU settings or chip nad he advised me that i dont need to do anything??... youve got me worried now!!!
Performance seems great ive not noticed any problems at all apart from a bit of popping when engine braking (which i considerd normal??)
Any one else got these fitted to that model post up and put my mind at ease!!

Pash, you need to get it changed to map 2 by the dealer. When i changed mine over, the dealer said it was ok to ride but take it easy and get the map changed pretty soon.

Cheers Nadz!

Trip to the dealer it is then!

Did you notice much difrence in permormance when switched to map2??

Hi Guys im running a 06 RSVR , I put MTC race cans on just prior to its second service, took it to my dealer who carried out the work ie ECU map 2, CO2 levels ect and carried out the service, and was not charged for the extra work .............he told me that i may notice a small difference in power................my god it transformed the bike ...AWESOME

I am running the full Ti Acro system on my 04 Factory and took it to southern X for a service. When he came back from a test ride he said it was running like Sh*t and needed to be switched to map 2. On further investigation it had been switched to map2 but the C02 levels had not been checked so the fuelling was way out (0.7 on front cyl and 7 on rear). Once setup runs a whole lot better and is way smoother. The thing that worried me was that it has done 6000+ miles like this!

Moral of the story make sure you get the CO2 setup as well as Map2 with aftermarket pipes.

GET GRIFF [FUSEBOX] TO SET EM UP FOR YA sorry shouting he'll set the map for your cans mate , he is without a doubt the harry potter of all things mille ,i now would not let anyone work on my bike other than griff shitbust!!! he eats cakes for friggin england tho my missus cant keep up :biggrin
