Hi
I purchased a set of Akrapovic titanium (SP) cans for my 2008 RSV Factory late last year, anyway cut a long story short I asked the shop I bought them off if I needed the bike re-mapping and was told no, to confirm this I also checked the Akrapovic website which gave me the same answer. So I went ahead and bought them and they have sat in my garage for months until today I decided to fit them, upon reading the instructions there was some info stating I needed to get my bikes fueling adjusted to (Set up 2)! Kind of confused me as its a contradiction of what I have read. I just want to have the bike right but don't want robbing in the meanwhile

Cheers Martin

So no need to refuel? As the instructions did have Aprilia written across them and gave strict instructions of major mechanical failure if they were not followed?

There is the very slightest possibility that I may be wrong... and i am SURE some one will point it out very quickly if I am... :biggrin

when fitting aftermarket cans to the newer mille's you need to get it switched to map 2

can only be done on an axone

thanks cheesy, shall get her booked in! I bought her new in June 08 and had her serviced in July so she isn't due till July this year though having been laid up all winter I shall drag this forward and have her done ASAP

What would happen if you ran the bike without the change ? I've had my cans on for a couple of months and getting it changed soon. Does it run lean.

Also can they set it up to have a few flames coming out on the over run ?

it doesn't take that long to change over

i would say more than likely it would be lean,

spoonz & griff will know more on this :thumbup

When fitting aftermarket open or race cans to 2004 onward RSVR and Factory you do need to get the ECU switched over to it 2nd fuel and ignition map. This MAP is known as MAP2. It can only be done by an Aprilia dealer using the diagnostic euipment called Axone. As well as this, the dealer also needs to adjust the CO2 setting on the throttle bodies or the bike will run poorly and suffer stalling problems. Make sure they do this correctly as there is a specific method to follow. Also ask the dealer to make sure you have the latest fueling MAP installed. If done correctly you will be able feel a marked improvement in performance.

Minty was it an Aprilia dealer who told you you don't need to switch maps? If it was it really does make you wonder sometimes :dunno

I thought they did it automatically when you get the first service done at the Aprilia dealers or am I wrong?

Viper, the "ECU wire snip" carried out by the dealer at first service to enable the deristricted MAP was only done on the pre 2003.5 bikes irrespective of whether a race can was fitted or not. The later 2004 onwards bikes run a different fuel control system for emmision regulations and have catalytic convertors in the standard exhausts. When race cans are fitted, the change to MAP2 puts the system into open loop, i.e disregarding the Lambda sensor. A more performance related fuel map is then activated to gain performance rather than the standard MAP1 which is for emmison regs.

Hope that makes sence

Cheers guy's

Spoke to the rocket centre in Blackburn today and their mechanic comfirmed I need to change to map2, will cost about £40 to do.

Legs,
In answer to your question I bought the cans off DK motorcycles and yes they stated over the phone that no changes were necessary to the fueling

Cheers
